About the neighbourhood
Guests looking for a walking holiday can quite literally step out their front door and onto the lower slopes of Blencathra, taking them on to a number of walks including Sharps Edge, Skiddaw House and Lowscales (the later two can also be ridden on mountain bikes). Threlkeld is a peaceful, traditional lakeland village which has two village inns both of which serve local ales and bar meals, a coffee shop &Post Office. The village is ideally situated for Keswick and Derwentwater, the Central Lake District. Offering numerous attractions including Beatrix Potter, William Wordsworth, Go Ape, spectacular mountain scenery, lakeland villages and lakes. Alternatively head west to Cockermouth the birth place of William Wordsworth and Jennings Brewery.
Getting around
The village is ideally situated for Keswick, which is only four miles away, and is easily accessible by car, local bus or by walking along the old railway line. The village has easy access to the Central Lake District, Ambleside and Windermere which is approximately a 25-35 minute drive. The main local bus route can take you east to Penrith or west via Keswick and run every hour from the bottom of Blease Road. Once in Keswick you are able to take the regular bus route in to the central Lakes or continue west to Cockermouth.
