About the neighbourhood
The beautiful village of Sheldon lies near the heart of the Peak District, three miles from the bustling market town of Bakewell, five miles from Buxton, famous for its spa and waters, and less than 15 miles from Sheffield. The local towns of Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock Bath, each famous in its own right, offer culture, shopping, restaurants and traditional markets. There are excellent walks from the door, especially down Deep Dale to reach the River Wye or down Lathkill Dale and Cressbrook Dales down to Monsal Dale and Monsal Head. In the summer, Ashford in the Water and many other local villages create unique well dressings from flower petals.
How to get there
3.5 hours north of London by car. 10 mins from Bakewell. 20 mins from Buxton. Public Transport. Rail - The nearest mainline stations are Chesterfield and Sheffield; smaller stations nearby include Buxton and all the stations in the Hope Valley. Air - The nearest airports are Manchester and East Midlands, both just an hour away by car. Taxi - We can put you in touch with a local private hire taxi company.
