Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Convenient, Clean and Value for Money
Close to borobudur and attractions. The owner, Ika can arrange for transport (or ferry you on his bike) if you are unfamiliar with the place. He will also provide a map of (clean) eating places around the homestay. Aircon, breakfast was simple but good, clean bathroom.

5 star hospitality for budget
We stayed back in 2015 September at Efata Homestay. Host: Ika and his family, nice kind friendly people. Welcome drink+local tasty snacks plus lots of information about Borobudur, Yogyakarta. Ika speaks amazing English (he was once a teacher) so there will be no language issues. And you can talk with him about any kind of topics, he is very patient, never had the time pressure feeling. We took the bus from Yogya airport (next to domestic terminal) and it took us right to the entrance of Borobudur temple. The guesthouse is around 5-7minutes from there - google maps is your friend, but there is sign on the main road too, so you will find it. Ika will give you a "map" about the town and also makes restaurant recommendations. (A very tasty, cheap local warong). For a very low price you get a simple but decent room, and five star service. We wanted to go for the sunrise (as almost everybody who visits Borobudur), but Ika told us, that on that exact days not worthy, because many clouds, what a good advice. Next day we met many disappointed tourists who paid the hefty fees for the sunrise tour and did not see anything... Also, Ika helped to post our postcards, without any extra fees! He is really a host you wish to have. Just for the sensitive sleepers: You should know that the homestay is close to a mosque, so you will hear the prayers, maybe bring a pair of earplugs. And don't get angry, this is Indonesia, a Muslim dominant country so you will have mosques everywhere. Get used to it!

Excellent homestay experience. Felt like visiting an old friend's home.
We agree with all that was written by other reviewers here. We would like to add on additional points :- We made arrangement with Ika the host to pick us up from the airport at Yogja in the early morning hours, and took the transport from him (personally driven by him) back to the airport a few days later, at another very early hours of 4am. The transfer charges were reasonable, at around market or slightly below market rate. That was a hugh piece of mind settled. We stayed for 3 nights and it felt like going back to a hometown to stay with a close friend & family. Every night, we made arrangements for Ika to call on very experienced masseurs (elderly couple) for 1 or 2 hours deep tissue massages which was really effective and value for money. Ika and family were ever so attentive. Ika played the chauffeur and tour guide for our visits to the Borobudur Temples and Pramanam Temple as well as stops along the way. He booked and collect the temple entry tickets for us too. Ika didn't advertise or suggest these services, but it was upon our requests. He charged a reasonable fees (less than formal guides) for the travel & tours. He was objective when we sought recommendations for places for lunch and dinner which tally with our own research. He helped to shortlist our places to try which resulted in the best decision we have made. He ferried us to the eating places and ferried us back after a few hours, even during heavy rains. Having said that, there are eating places with good hygiene nearby within walking distance, such as Alea Coffee House & Art Gallery recommended by Ika, overlooking a padi fields, that serves a good selection of drinks and snacks, including a complimentary handrolled grass cigarettes. A small supermarket is just across the road from the homestay. Overall, we had a very lovely stay at the homestay. Some points to note for fellow travellers : (1) The homestay do not have credit card payment facilities. Please bring cash to pay. Ika will be happy to bring guests to the money changers if you don't have enough cash. (2) Not for large groups. There are 2 bedrooms so far with queen sized bed, so the homestay is suitable for 2 persons in each room. Big groups of more than 5, it'd be a squeeze. (3) The mosque is near the homestay (and other homestays or hotels around this area for that matter). So have the right expectations that the Muslim prayers over the public speakers happens every few hours (that lasts for about 10 to 15 minutes).

Authentic Javanese life, 5 minutes from the breathtaking Buddhist temple of Borobudur
I ended up staying at Ika’s place for a week because I loved it so much. Ika and his wife are gracious hosts, always attentive to your needs. they will do everything in their power to make your stay comfortable and always spoil you with delicious snacks (from cassava chips, to fruits from their garden, to snacks from the local market). The room is comfortable and with air-conditioning. The bathroom is modest but perfectly functional with hot water, WC and sink. For the price it is a real bargain! Borobudur temple is literally 5 minutes away, so the location is very convenient. Ika was very helpful, and always provided me suggestions on things to do, and escorted me to places by motorbike. He was also kind enough to accompany me to dinners and shows I wanted to see in Yogyakarta. If you decide to stay with him make sure to check out Javanava Travel Cafe, you will get ideas on excursions to take in the area and will be helped by the staff to organize them. I also really appreciated Ika's honesty, as he always took me to places that didn't overcharge the tourists. You must know that in Indonesia there is always a different price if you are a puli (foreigner) but lots of places really exaggerate and many of them give commission so you end up being ripped off easily. Ika was very honest and upfront, and always made sure I would get a fair price. I would definitely recommend Efata Homestay to anyone who wants to experience Borobudur and authentic Javanese life! My stay could not have been better!

Prima basic accommodatie

Great hospitality
From arrival to departure, my stay at Efata Homestay was wonderful. It is in a family compound that has a lovely, central garden area, making it very pleasant. Ika's English is excellent, which makes him a good guide as well as a good host. His wife is also very pleasant and friendly. Both tried to do all they could to make my stay enjoyable and comfortable. I was given a welcome snack when I arrived. Breakfast was one of the nicest I've had at a homestay in Indonesia. Ika arranged the sunrise tour, delivered me to the starting point, and took me to a good viewing point. He also took me to two other temples in the area for a small fee. His knowledge of and stories about the sites made them more enjoyable. He also helped with transportation to my next destination.

real homestay

nice homestay
A beautiful, simple accommodation with an absolutely friendly family. The host Ika is almost always available, takes guests directly to the best places in and around Borobudur and has a lot of interesting stories to tell. He was host, guide and friend at the same time.

Lovely
The house is simple, clean, quite with a nice garden. It is conveniently located 5 minutes from the temple. Ika and his family have been so friendly and welcoming with us, they waited on us hand and foot. You'll feel immediately at ease. Ika is an excellent tour guide, he advised us for the restaurant and helped us to go to the temple and speaks a very good english. his wife and the kids are lovely, they offered us with tea, some indonesian snacks and a delicious breakfast. Thank you for this special moment :) To summarize, It is the best option to see the aspects of Indonesian local life. we would highly recommend.

An amazing homestay with kind and compassionate hosts
An amazing homestay with kind and compassionate hosts who treat guests to the local foods, show them local industries and attractions and make them feel at home. The Homestay is no more than 5 minute walk to the famous Borobudur temple, which is beautiful and best seen early in the morning. Ika (the main host) lives with his wife and son. His mother and sister have houses opposite the Homestay. Their joint surrounding gardens are beautiful; they grow their own fruit. It is a really good option to be shown aspects of Indonesian local life by someone other than a big tour guide. A much more intimate and authentic experience. Ika and his family go out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable. He even picked us up from Yogya train station and showed us which public buses to catch and then met us at the bus station at Borobudur. We stayed for 5 days as one of us was unwell and they were very compassionate and took care of us. The host arranged bike rides, showed us where to eat and was really helpful. It's a 2 second walk to a local supermarket, restaurants etc. There is even a local laundry a stone's throw away. We found this Homestay on Airbnb and decided to stay as the reviews were so positive - we would highly recommend.
