Keepers Cottage

1 of 6
Holiday Rental House -
1 Bedroom , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 2
Forsinard, Caithness and Sutherland, Scottish Highlands, Scotland
Keepers Cottage offers accommodation in Forsinain, 16.2 miles from Thurso. The property is 29.2 miles from John O Groats and features views of the river. This is an amazing opportunity to escape from the citty buzz to remote location in the middle of nowhere. At night time it will become pitch black and it is so quite that you can hear the deers rutting. The oven completes the coziness factor while you are sitting on the very comfortable couch watching telly on the massive flat screen. The cottage is equipped with all the necessary cooking things and it is a pleasing experience to cook with a real fire. The facilities are all quite modern and comfortable. Free private parking is available on site.
Towels and bed linen are offered in this self-catering accommodation.
The area is popular for fishing and hiking.

I honestly don't understand the positive rating on tripadviser about this property. Mold in the fridge, extremely dirty floors, dirty bathtub, damp bedsheets, damp towels, a very noisy generator ruining the serene environment, breadcrumbs of previous visitors in the bread container, old used toilet articles...More

We are sorry to learn that you had a bad experience - especially as other reviewers kindly gave us 4* and 5* reviews - and spoke of the good presentation and cleanliness. Even though you complained after 9pm at night, I still got the housekeeper...More

Ok so there are a few useful things to note about this remote Highland idyll.. the track in (we came via route 1 of 3 possible routes offered by the owner when we booked) started off at a farm just outside Forsinard and progressed uphill...More

Dear Laura - thank you so much for taking the time to write such a kind review. It is much appreciated. It is best to turn the generator off during the day to enjoy the peace and quiet and then turn it on again at...More

Ok, so there is miles to drive along a track to get there, and it's hilarious trying to figure out how to cook on the wood burning stove, the pipes do make a bit of noise now and then and yes it is a generator...More

About the neighbourhood
It is possibly the remotest place in the UK, perfect for those who are looking to escape from the city buzz. Perfect for hiking and relaxation.
Getting around
If you are traveling from Inverness by train then you must let the conductor know that it is a request stop at Altnabreac. From Altnabreac you can also get to Thurso and Wick. You must let us know if you are planning to arrive by train so we can pick you up and escort to the cottage.
Car advised
How to get there
Airport: Wick airport: 38.0 km
If you are arriving by road and do not have a four-wheel-drive vehicle, then we suggest that you travel on the A895 (turn off the A9 at Helmsdale) and the turn right over a small bridge about 2 miles after passing Forsinard Hotel, followed by an immediate right turn. You will have to open and close 5 gates, none of which are locked, and then come to Lochdhu Lodge (also in Altnabreac - the big house with wind turbines) to collect the keys.
