The house and gardens are absolutely idyllic and we had a wondeful time there, simply lazing in the garden and then exploring close by and a bit further afield. The village is totally charming, very very quiet and there were lovely marked trails through the surrounding countryside - in fact, there are no restrictions and we could wander off wherever we wanted through the forests or meadows. We had a few evenings at the village pub down the road sampling draught beer and red wine and also visited the bigger village close by that had a few bars and restaurants serving traditional as well as international type food. The English-Czech owners were a great help, providing advice about what to see and do, giving us an interesting insight into Czech life and helping us plan trips - I recommend visiting the beautiful fairy tale Konopiste Castle, which was the home of the Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire [its just 15 mins away], ancient fortified town of Tabor and of course Prague, which...

We had a great stay in Petra’s Stonehouse in Stranný. The house and the garden are exactly as described and are very charming. The bedrooms are a lot more spacious than the photos may lead you to expect. The kitchen is unusually well equipped. Stranný village is very quiet and really like an oasis of tranquility, where you can spend an excellent holiday and discover everything the Czech Republic has to offer (which is a lot). The text of the “Overview” corresponds to reality and is not exaggerated. Several shops in the village nearby (Neveklov, at about 3 kilometres) offer everything you need for daily shopping and at competitive prices. Gasoline and ATMs are also available in Neveklov. There is no reason to shop farther away in larger supermarkets. From Stranný, it is easy to make trips to various historical towns (Prague, Tabor, Kutna Hora). Petra gave useful advice about the best routes to take. The highways are sometimes (but not always) faster, but not anywhere as scenic as local...

About the neighbourhood
The Old Stone House apartments are situated in a delightful village surrounded by typical Bohemian countryside of rolling hills, farmland and sprawling forests. The landscape is home to a vast array of flora and fauna – you will see many roe deer in the forests and fields surrounding the village and a short walk away live a herd or rare wild mouflon (a species that looks like a cross between a sheep and goat). The first written record of our village, which has its own coat of arms, dates from 1184 and during the past 800 years it has grown little. Nearby, a bigger village provides all necessary backup, including shops (supermarkets, health food shop), restaurants, doctors, hairdressers etc and also has a traditional village square.
Getting around
Our village is part of Prague bus/train zone system and connected to the city by buses and trains. 3 mins walk from the Stone House you can catch a bus to the nearby village where there are connecting buses to all areas of Czech or the nearest town 15 minutes away where you can use the national rail network to reach historical places of interest. Most buses/trains run through great scenic routes and you can enjoy the views of Slapy lake or river valleys on your way.

Nearby, you can take an amazing steam train journey on the Trans Sázava Pacific which takes you on a scenic journey along the picturesque valley of the river Sázava, negotiating historical bridges and tunnels.
Car not needed

Airport: Vaclav Havel International Airport Prague: 60.0 km

We can also arrange car hire from the Old Stone House on a daily basis.

Using public transport - buses or trains - we will be pleased to find you the most convenient route, provide instructions and arrange pick up from the bus stop to our village.
