Manna is a much loved, delightful 19th Century 4 Bedroom Farmhouse which has been cleverly restored to retain many of its original features. Set among 5 acres of Mediterranean pine trees and olive groves, this pale cream house with green shutters is one of Syros’ hidden treasures. Only a 15 minute drive to Ermopouli or the beach, with its treasure trove of antique furniture, original tiled floors, thick stone walls and hidden courtyards, this is the perfect base to explore this pretty and unspoiled island. Only a 15 minute drive to Ermopouli or the beach, with its treasure trove of antique furniture, original tiled floors, thick stone walls and hidden courtyards, this is the perfect base to explore this pretty and unspoiled island. Coming from the garden, you enter into a delightful courtyard with sun loungers, sofa and comfy armchairs. A large parasol gives shade in the summer months. French windows lead into the dining room with original tiled floor, sea grass carpet, 2 large dressers (full of local pottery), antique settle and dining table with seating for 8. Copper bowls decorate the walls. This leads onto our bijou kitchen with marble work surface, gas hob, electric oven and dishwasher (pick some herbs from the garden). All the bedrooms are delightful and all have air conditioning. Bedroom One (in the main section of the house)with original tiled floor has a king size bed, mahogany chest of drawers (which contrasts with the crisp white bed linen), delightful wall hangings and comfy couch. The en-suite bathroom has a shower cubicle, sink and loo. Windows look across the courtyard. The snug, with original tiled floors, antique kilim, sofa, armchairs and occasional furniture has a woodburning stove (in case of chilly evenings in Spring or Autumn). This leads onto the second reception room with its tiled floor, antique kilim, bookshelves heaving with books and a collection of much loved local memorabilia. This leads to the courtyard with steps into the gardens. Bedrooms, 2, 3 & 4 are across the Courtyard. Bedroom 2 is delightful with a king size bed, sea grass carpet, washstand and delightful hanging space which leads into a spectacular en-suite with the original bread oven (now a shower cubicle). Bedroom 3 has twin beds, delightful hand painted wardrobe and French windows onto the courtyard. Bedroom 4 has 4 poster twin beds, original tiled floor and delightful bathroom with hand painted mosaic tiles. Bathroom 4 is at the end of the courtyard. This is a house where linens are fresh and colours serene and you do feel that you have this glorious area to yourselves. The private and secluded gardens extend over 5 acres with pine, olive and lemon trees. The larger courtyard with oleander bushes and bamboo ceiling has a huge marble dining table for al-fresco dining with views across the gardens. There are other seating areas hidden among the gardens where you can snooze with a book. The plunge pool is hidden among the Mediterranean pines which provide shade in the summer. Being waist high, the pool is perfect for a dip in the afternoon having spent the day at the beach or exploring the area. Net, our English speaking gardener, who will meet you at the ferry or airport, is always on hand to recommend places to visit or to just have a chat. More

About the neighbourhood
Manna Farmhouse sits in an elevated position with far reaching views and is yet only a short drive to the main town of Ermoupoli which is well worth a visit during your stay with resplendent pastel-hued villas, glorious neoclassical buildings, venetian architecture, cobbled streets and marble squares. The Apollo theatre has been perfectly restored as a miniature facsimile of La Scale in Milan which hosts an annual international opera festival, jazz evenings and many theatrical and musical performances. A recent Daily Telegraph article described Syros as the “idyllic Greek island nobody has heard of”. The beaches are divine – the closest only a 15 minute drive away but there are many to choose from.
Getting around
Ned will meet you at the ferry or airport and take you to the house. We can recommend a local car hire company.
