Manifold Cottage is an above average sized two person pet-free non-smoking cottage, graded in the top half of four star by the country official grading organsiatioon 'EnjoyEngland', and given an almost unheard of 100% for standards of housekeeping in the grading process. The cottage has a modern tasteful ambience but plenty of charachter features, in particular a large heavily beamed bedroom open to the rafters. The bedroom has a king-sized bed with extra thick mattress (and second television). The living room has a log effect stove with a leather settee and a comfortable wingchair plus a TV and DVD player. The TV receives the full range of sky programmes, so including sky sports and films channels. There is wifi. Additionally there is fully controllable central heating throughout. The TV receives the full range of sky programmes, so including sky sports and films channels. There is wifi. Additionally there is fully controllable central heating throughout. The cottage has a full sized bathroom with shower over the bath. The kitchen has imposing real granite sinks, gloss worktops, There are top of the range laminated floors of the highest quality throughout (where not carpeted). In January 2019 the bathroom was completed gutted - not that there was anything wrong with it, it was just we had taken out the immersion heater, giving us the opportunity of creating a lot more space, so went the whole way and changed everything. So there is now a very smart and modern bathroom indeed! The photos of the bathroom have not yet been updated. Then on 26th February 2019 we upgraded the Wifi such that it is now supplied via super fast cable. There is also on the other side of the courtyard a Sky sports room with 55 inch TV and surround sounds, again offering all the Sky channels but also BT sports. This room is shared with the two other cottages in the courtyard but little used due to all cottages having their own sky channels so guests can be pretty confident that when using it they will be the only ones in there. Hartington itself is one of the honey-pot villages in the Peak District, being regarded as an excellent base for walking and cycling. This is helped by its location only a couple of hundred yards from the River Dove, which can easily be reached from the village over an attractive meadow and from there, there is an excellent riverside path down to Dovedale, the most famous area of the Peak District). As a result the village is able to support, despite only having 130 houses, several tea shops, two (excellent) coaching inns, a delicatessen, a grocers, two gift shops, a post office an art studio an antiques shop and famous cheese shop to which many make a point of travelling from miles around. There is also a duck pond which acts as a magnet for many visitors. The village is approached down a gorgeous but easily driven 2 mile long dale road from one of the Peak District's main artery roads, making it extraordinarily easy to get around to visit the numerous attractions in the Peak District. The cottage is centrally located in a private courtyard consisting of three cottages, and is therefore able to offer peace and quiet despite the village getting at times during the main tourist season or at weekends fairly busy. In the courtyard there is a barbecue and laundry room and provision for off-road parking of cars. There is some limited outdoor seating area with flower borders. there is dedicated parking for occupants of this cottage literally yards from the front door. In the cottage there are ten (!) highly praised personalised information folders, ensuring guests are able to take maximum advantage of their stay in Hartington and its environs. For some reason this year 2019 we still have as at 6th june some vacancies for the next couple of months, (normally all weeks till mid september are booked out by spring - or even earlier) so whilst we have not increased rentals by more than Β£20 or Β£30,since the recession started, we have now reduced the available weeks to what we were charging back in 2008More

Manifold is a lovely cottage in a great location. I recommend both the Charles Cotton Hotel and the Devonshire Arms for an evening out.

About the neighbourhood
Hartington is one of the most highly regarded villages in the Peak, famous for its fine old stone buildings, Jaobean Hall, geese pond and cheese shop..The (easy) approach down a long dale to the village from the main road really takes some beating. The River Dove is only a few hundred yards away and a very popular walk starts in the village, over some lovely meadows to the River, along the stretch known as Berefsford Dale, which in turn leads onto Wolfscote Dale and the most famous Dale of the Peak, Dovedale. There are numerous further footpaths and bridle ways in the immediate vicinity, offering unrivalled walking in the best part of the White Peak. The highly popular Tissington Trail, which runs for 17 miles, is used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and is just 1 mile from the cot...
How to get there
Detailed directions are sent prior to guests arrival, but Hartington is very accessable being a very easy two miles away (along a fairly straight B road) from a trunk road, the A515, half way between Buxton and Ashbourne. The accessability of Hartington means that once there, getting around the Peak District, is also extremely easy. For those travelling from abroad we would advise that we are half way between Manchester to the north (whose airport is one hour away)and Birmingham and its two airports Birminghan and East midlands Airport - the latter is also one hour away - to the south. 80 miles from Hull Docks (for ferries from Holland and Belgium)(two hours driving time) and 4 and a half hours from Dover. The excellent bus service between Buxton and Ashbourne from a stop just 80 yards f...
