Nelly Bay, Magnetic Island, Queensland
Sensational sea & mountain views views views... Central location close to sophisticated bars & gourmet cafes. The water is divine for swimming & diving - there has never been a shark or croc attack on the island. In summer, stinger nets about 100m long by 50m keep out venomous jellyfish. To dive the reef, swim out about 30m from the beach & follow dive trail markers to experience colourfully gorgeous coral, giant clams & tropical fish. Another favourite is horse riding along Horseshoe Bay where you can swim with your horse. There are superb bushwalks - one to Florence Bay, which is known as one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Koalas nap in the treetops on the Forts walk - locals keep tabs on their location so visitors can see them in the wild. There is a tree usually covered in dazzling tropical butterflie... Read more

Foodies was perfect for our family of four--we loved the location which was quiet and residential but a quick walk to the beach and the small town of Nelly Bay. Christine was fantastic--she went above and beyond with a lovely breakfast tailored to our tastes each morning, even packing food for us on the day we left to catch the...

I hear lot of people travelling and getting accommodation on AirBnB, some people expect a hotel or a place where they will be served by the host. I didn't have that expectation because you are actually staying in some ones house and I'm pretty sure they all want us to to have a great experience and feel very comfortable. My...

About the neighbourhood
A volcano created the island about 175 million years ago... Then prehistoric oceans and glaciers carved it to a beautiful flattish cone. Headlands with giant fantastically shaped boulders look across the dark turquoise ocean. The giant granite boulders look like sculpture poking through ancient trees like a giant bonsai.
Getting around
Foodies is in Nelly Bay, the island's centre - a short walk to chemist, bottle shop, post office, a grocery store, cafes, 3km of gorgeous beach, XBase, a bus stop & the reef. A 3km beach is at the bottom of Lilac Street so you can hear the waves breaking at night. The ferry terminal is a short drive or a 3km walk. The island's bus route is about seven houses down at the bottom of the street on Sooning Street, the main street, which runs from the north to the south of the island. You can hire bicycles, scooters, cars and 4WDs, catch a taxi or bring your vehicle over on the FantaSea car ferry.
