About the neighbourhood
Carnish sits overlooking Uig Sands, famous for being where the 'Lewis Chessmen' were found many years ago.

Uig Bay is a National Scenic Area, one of only 40 in Scotland. The designation reflects the bay's status as an area of unsurpassed attractiveness, something anyone who visits will understand.

For those who have read Peter May's Lewis Trilogy, the final book The Chessmen is situated overlooking Carnish and the surrounding area and the Abhainn Dhearg distillery mentioned in the book can be found at the end of the road as you turn into Carnish itself.

Uig captures the perfect mix of breathtaking beaches, rugged mountains and fantastic wildlife that is hard to find anywhere else in the world.

as an added bonus, there is a fantastic restaurant just a few minutes walk f...

How to get there
Airport: Stornoway Airport: 60.0 km
Ferry: Stornoway Ferry: 56.0 km
You can fly to Stornoway from Edinburgh and Glasgow in under an hour and from Inverness in around 30 minutes. Car hire is available at Stornoway airport and it takes just over an hour to drive to Carnish.
Stornoway has two large supermarkets (Tescos and The Co-operative) as well as some excellent local butchers and fishmongers so it is very easy to stock up on arrival. There is also a local shop in Uig which is well stocked and also supplies both coal and logs if needed.

If you prefer to drive then you can catch the ferry to Stornoway from Ullapool or, alternatively, drive through Skye and catch the Uig to Tarbet sailing to Harris.
