A spacious period cottage with a warm fire for wi yer and a large garden for summer. Lovely surroundings. An easy drive to Carcassonne, which is reputedly one of the most visited places in France.

The two of us, and two friends of ours had s very enjoyable week based at the cottage and exploring the local area. The cottage itself is comfortable and well-equipped. Situated next to a railway line which in no way detracts, rather adds to its quirkiness and tranquility. an occasional passing of the single carriage train (1 euro fare to Carcassonne) at irregular times is a pleasant interval whilst sitting either in the secluded garden or at the al fresco dining with a chilled white and a bowl of local...

The Railway Cottage is situated in the lower part of the medieval village of Montazels, which sits above the banks of the River Aude between Espéraza and Couiza. Espéraza is famous for its Sunday market and its local products. Couiza is a buzzing little village boasting an excellent hotel and restaurant (see the activities page), and is itself just a short car journey from Limoux, which is famous for its annual carnival, its abundant antique markets and its famous blanquette! The department of Aude is situated in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, which is one of the largest wine producing regions in Europe.
