Other leisure activities available locally include cycling, golf, horse riding and clay pigeon shooting. Almondbury is on the edge of the ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ country just 4 miles from the popular town of Holmfirth which has a wide variety of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. There is also a good selection of pubs within a 15 minute walk, some of which offer food. A wider range of facilities can be found in Huddersfield which again is approximately 4 miles. The area is rich in culture with notable theatres in Bradford (the Alhambra) and Leeds (The Grand). The region also plays host to a number of music festivals throughout the year, including Marsden’s jazz festival and Huddersfield’s contemporary music festival. Families will particularly enjoy the Eureka! Science museum at Halifax, 11 miles, Bradford’s National Media Museum, 16 miles, and the Royal Armouries at Leeds, 22 miles. Other places of interest, within easy driving distance, include Bretton Sculpture Park, 9 miles, Haworth and Bronte Country, 22 miles, Manchester, 32 miles and Harrogate 36 miles. The historic city of York can also be reached by car in just over an hour. National Trust properties within easy reach include Nostell Priory and Parkland, Hardcastle Crags, both 15 miles, East Riddlesden Hall, 18 miles and Lyme Park, 23 miles.
