About the neighbourhood
The village has a good selection of pubs, restaurants, coffee shops and takeaways. It has convenience stores, butcher, gift shops, chemist, newsagents, bakers, ATM machine, beauty salon, hairdressers and library all within a five minute walk from the cottage. Local supermarkets Lidl and Aldi in Crook and all the other major supermarkets in Bishop Auckland. Delivery services are available. This is such a lovely area to explore wether by car or walking. The cottage is a great base with lots to see and do. The Weardale Railway Heritage Line, fishing, bowling green and golf courses are nearby. Weardale provides the setting for a full range of outdoor leisure and country pursuits. An excellent area for walking and cycling.
Getting around
The most convenient way to see the sights is by car. However there is a good bus service to the nearby towns of Crook (15 mins) Bishop Auckland (30 mins). Both have well know supermarkets. The Weardale Railway, a Heritage line, follows the path of the River Wear. Wolsingham has church services held in the Parish, Methodist, Baptist and RC Church. If you family tree includes Weardale ancestors you should make The Weardale Museum and High House Chapel you first port of call. Their genealogy database includes over 60,000 'Weardale People' to find your ancestors. It could save you many hours of research.
