Situated just 20 minutes from Bath, Wells and Glastonbury, in the market town of Midsomer Norton, The Old Priory is reputed to be one of the oldest houses in Somerset, with records showing that it was first established in 1170. This historically significant building was an Augustinian Priory in early medieval times, later being seized by Henry VIII and bequeathed to Christchurch College, Oxford. It was owned by Christchurch until 1712 when it was sold to a private local buyer. A secret tunnel is said to have existed linking the nearby 15th century church to The Old Priory, which was possibly used for escape and refuge in the days of religious persecution. We booked the Old Priory for a Hen Weekend with 15 ladies. Not only is the house beautiful, full of history and incredibly comfortable but it's perfectly laid out with an en suite in every room, a large dining table we could all fit around...More

Situated in the market town of Midsomer Norton, The Old Priory is a hideaway south of Bath, ideally located for exploring the areas finest landmarks and attractions including: -- The world heritage Georgian city of Bath -- The beautiful cathedral city of Wells -- Glastonbury – associated with the legends of King Arthur, the Holy Grail and site of one of the largest outdoor festivals -- Cheddar Gorge -- Wookey Hole -- Longleat Safari park and House -- Stourhead House/Gardens -- The Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton -- Pretty country village touring: Wellow – Norton St. Phillip – Farley Hungerford – Bradford on Avon – Lacock – Castle Combe
Getting around
We have a large car park for up to 10 cars in from of the building. Buses go from the town centre around two minutes walk to Bath, Bristol and Wells. The nearest train station is in Bath and there are plenty of local taxi firms. There are cycle paths on disused railway lines going off to Bath and Frome.
