About the neighbourhood
Bacton is situated on the North East Norfolk coast and is an ideal place for walking, cycling or sea fishing. The area is close to where man first established a settlement at the nearby village of Happisburgh (pronounced Hazborough) . Here ancient footsteps have been found on the beach.

In the village itself was once home to Bacton Abbey (more correctly known as Bromholm Priory) founded in 1113 by William de Glanville and housed the Cluniac order. Dissolved in 1536 only a few ruins still remain, such as the gatehouse, Chapter House, and the northern transept of the Priory Church. Further detail can be found at the excellent Bacton History site.
