Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Stay near the castle with amazing rooftop terrace
2 bedrooms but loads of living space - and a 3rd bedroom only connected to rest of house via lift. Two floors of outdoor living - a kitchen and a rooftop terrace which is enormous!!! Aircon worked well and you are smack bang in the middle of the old town. Beautiful sandy beaches are a short walk too. We did have to buy wine glasses though but we left them there!

About the neighbourhood
Otranto is a small seaside town in the extreme eastern point of Italy. Due to its ideal geographical position, Otranto has always been the place where different civilisations, cultures and traditions have come into contact. If you go walking in its historic centre, you can easily discover its ancient origins by admiring its Messapian, Greek and Roman architectural testimonies.

Far from the noisy and polluted industrial areas of Italy, nowadays Otranto keeps on looking East. This heavenly place, where it seems time has stood still, shows the traces of an ancient history on both its land and its extraordinary people's faces. Don't give up the pleasure of enjoying the unique atmosphere of this enchanting town!

Otranto, a town rich in waters, where even the majestic walls which fortify it may tell you stories of past civilisations; where its ancient monuments cherish the memory of bygone echoes which don't want to leave this place praised by poets and writers; where its wonderful sea spumes amid the rocks – a shelter for gulls – and its delightful beaches become bright with dancing fires in summer moonlit nights; where travellers and dreamers hope to go back home enchanted and fascinated by the history and legends of this picturesque and evocative place. Otranto: a bridge between the West and the East, a bridge between reality and dream.

From the cliffs of Frassanito to Porto Badisco – where Virgil imagined Aeneas's landing place, passing by the lakes of Alimini and the evocative bays and beaches of Baia dei Turchi and Orte, the beautiful coastline is full of quaint natural landscapes embellished by towers and manor farms hidden in the olive groves or the luxuriant Mediterranean scrub.
Getting around
Otranto (UK: /ɒˈtræntoʊ/,[3] US: /oʊˈtrɑːntoʊ/,[4][5] Italian: [ˈɔːtranto]; Salentino: Uṭṛàntu; Griko: Δερεντό, romanized: Derentò; Ancient Greek: Ὑδροῦς, romanized: Hudroûs; Latin: Hydruntum) is a town and comune in the province of Lecce (Apulia, Italy), in a fertile region once famous for its breed of horses. It is located on the east coast of the Salento peninsula. The Strait of Otranto, to which the city gives its name, connects the Adriatic Sea with the Ionian Sea and separates Italy from Albania. The harbour is small and has little trade. The lighthouse Faro della Palascìa, at approximately 5 kilometres (3 miles) southeast of Otranto, marks the most easterly point of the Italian mainland.
