The train from Glasgow (Queen Street) runs to Mallaig three or four times a day. The West Highland Line is probably the most scenic train route in UK, and includes crossing over Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous in Harry Potter films. For that touch of nostalgia, there is also a steam train running in the summer months - but book it well in advance!
There is a regular bus service between Glasgow and Mallaig, via Fort William and Loch Lomond. There is also a bus service to Inverness, the Highland capital, which passes famous Loch Ness.
