CONACUL MANTESCU is unique in this part of Romania as it's the only authentically restored traditional Romanian house, a labour of love of my ancestors who built it in 1916 using materials and architectural principles that our ancestors the people of Dacia used for millennia. The property has immense historical, cultural, and architectural value (the Neo-Romanesc style – unique to this part of the world), as well as being located in one of the last surviving unspoilt natural landscapes with one of the most diverse flora and fauna in Europe. There is a tremendous number of hiking opportunities as well as day trips to incredible landmarks, the nearest one being a pyramid shaped stone in the 1acre backgarden. This in itself is bordered by a majestic mountain wall that hides an old ancient man...CONACUL MANTESCU is unique in this part of Romania as it's the only authentically restored traditional Romanian house, a labour of love of my ancestors who built it in 1916 using materials and architectural principles that our ancestors the people of Dacia used for millennia. Our experience was a pleasant one, on Mantescu house. Being two couples, we occupied the two traditional rooms upstairs. We enjoyed the historical way in which our ancestors lived one century ago, we shared the living room space for board games and we experienced for...More

A lovely historic house beautifully renovated and set in beautiful forests. Very helpful host. As with much of Romania, it would be helpful to have a 4WD for getting about (though we managed fine with a Dacia Logan).More

About the neighbourhood
This country house is nestled in a very small remote village of outstanding natural beauty in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains, the Buzau range. There are plenty of hiking opportunities in and around the village, maybe to see the local village church, built in 1758 and classed as a historic monument. Or maybe to just walk in the back garden admiring the majestic 360 degrees mountain views and the pyramid shaped stone, or the ancient deity portrait drawn on the nearest mountain peak. The place is dotted with such mysteries. Also the area is known for its tranquillity and there are numerous ancient inscriptions on rocks and in caves that can be seen with the help of a local guide, depending on your interest and trekking abilities.
Getting around
Public transport is only available to the nearest commune Braesti. Please ask for additional info if required. To get to and from property you will need a car, preferably a 4x4. Should you need to hire a car, it can be picked up either from Bucharest Otopeni Airport or from Buzau City. You can search and book this online in advance. Please ask for help if you need further assistance with this. The area is very safe and the locals are very discreet and respectful. There is a local rustic RESTAURANT only 2 miles (3km) away - which serves a rare breed of pork (mangalita) as the house speciality and amazingly tasty dishes from locally produced food and from their own farm. We fully recommend it. All details can be provided on request.
