Glasbury-on-Wye, Powys, Wales
An elegant and beautifully converted romantic Granary is in the grounds of a picturesque and very productive small holding and Market Garden on the banks of The River Wye. A perfect romantic bolt-hole for two people, and only a few minutes walk from the bookshops, restaurants, antique shops and cafes of Hay-on-Wye.

A wonderful spot for relaxing privately with a picnic and a drink or for sun bathing beside the river or for a paddle in the shallow waters or possibly even a wild swim if the weather is right.

The owners are in the process of converting the underneath of the granary, however they will keep the noise disruption to a minimum!

Sleeps 2, One bedroom

This delightful granary is reached up a flight of external stone stairs which leads onto a balcony patio with table and chairs and offers a peaceful place to sit...

We chose this cottage as a quiet location but within walking distance of Hay-on-Wye (no idea why the location is given as Glasbury, which is 2 miles further up the river). The accommodation is comfortable (especially the bed) and well laid out. It is quite a novelty having the goats, chickens and geese wandering about. We were a bit concerned about being kept awake at night but they seem to keep very social hours and the goats (sleeping underneath the Granary) are quiet after 11 pm. As well as walking into Hay you can wander down to the river, which is OK for wild swimming, although we haven't had the weather for it this week. A very generous welcome pack is provided (bread, butter, milk, eggs, home made jam - plus a good supply of basics like tea, coffee, olive oil, etc. It's not 5* luxury but it is good value and, as I said at the start "quirky".

About the neighbourhood
Hay-on-Wye is a popular market town on the River Wye, sitting on the border between England and Wales, at the foot of The Black Mountains. Overlooked by the fascinating 11thc. Castle, the town has a wealth of interesting old buildings and the 'largest second-hand bookshop in the world' in the old cinema- one of the 30 major antiquarian bookshops, each with their own speciality. Hay-on-Wye hosts the world famous Literary Festival with a great many famous literary figures taking the stage
