Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

It has potential but we wouldn't come back as it is
This review is from my own experience, Maria Jose, Antonio's sister, who used the villa with him and our family. First, I will say what was fine with it: - The location: easy access. - Size of the house. - A lot of cleaning products available. - Good size of the swimming pool. We have just left the Villa after expending a week there. I must say that the house itself it has a lot of potential but it’s lack in many different aspects made the stay very uncomfortable. Please see below a list of things: - The appliance: The dishwasher was very old, rusty and broken. Same with the fridges/freezers. The Kettle and the toaster has English plugs and only one adaptor which makes impossible to use both at the same time. And the microwave did not always work. - Water: Sometime it didn’t work, possibly because the pressure or the amount wasn’t enough for the full house. A few time there was no water upstairs. - The swimming pool: The second day was already very dirty. The landlords said it was our fault because we didn’t shower, we were showering all the time, obviously the pool treatment plant wasn’t working properly. One day, they came to clean the swimming pool at 10am and we couldn’t use the pool until after 2pm, so a whole half day without being able to use the swimming pool. The pool products were very aggressive, it destroyed all our swimsuits and pool toys, everything got a disgusting yellow color. One of the kids, almost the last day, got a pretty ugly split on the foot with the sharp pool stairs. - Showers and taps: The one on the pool has very low pressure. The ones in the rest of the house were half broken, the water went away in different places puddling the bathrooms. - Shades: Nonexistent. They told us that they didn’t put umbrellas because other clients left them opened and they end up broken. My reply to the landlords, after being there a week is, yes, things break when they are being used. But the shade in summer is very very necessary in this house we had a very had time because of it. Near the pool there is a small and nice space with some shade, but the roof is almost broken, which means all the sun goes through. - Ventilation and fans: It was horribly hot. The air didn’t move even with everything open. We use the fans that were all over the house, but there weren’t plugs. Likely we brought some power strips and we were able to put the fans on the windows to bring some cool air inside. No doubts, this house needs air conditional. Crib: They told us that they didn’t have crib sheets because families usually preferred bring their owns. It was our case, but they didn’t give us option. Barbecue area: it had a few broken tables that were dangerous for the kids. They asked us in a few occasions we needed something or if everything was fine, but the few things that we told them or it wasn’t resolved or they blame us (umbrellas, crib sheets, water, swimming pool…) The worst part was that when we were leaving the landlady wanted to make us pay for the pool lounger because it had a “scratch”, a scratch that is almost invisible . By the way, there were only 4 pool loungers for 14 people. Anyway, this is one more proof that they try to blame everyone (us or previous users) but them for everything that is wrong at the house, which makes it very difficult for them to actually improve it. For all of these, we won't go back to this house. We have pictures and videos of many of the things that I am writing here.

Excellent villa with everything you need
I must start by saying that reading previous reviews I couldn't see any signs of issues other people had had. We travelled with a group of 14 and had plenty of places to sleep. The accommodation was huge and very comfortable to which the whole group enjoyed. We had a great time relaxing by the pool and the 6 kids we had with us enjoyed playing in the pool and watching the english tv channels when it too hot outside. The town of Alora had everything we needed with shops, bars, restaurants all in easy access. Terry and his partner was very helpful giving us all the information we needed before we arrived and whilst we stayed, I will personally recommend this villa to all my friends and family and will look forward to returning again. Thank you

A lovely villa in need of some maintenance.
This villa is in a lovely location. It is spacious and attractive with a huge terrace and wonderful views. Everything other reviewers have said about these aspects of the property are absolutely true. Unfortunately our stay coincided with the wettest, coldest period of weather that we have ever encountered in 20 years of winter holidays in Andalusia. On some mornings the car thermometer was showing single figures and, on most days, the villa was very cold inside. In addition we often returned from trips cold and wet. We had the lounge fire lit all day in order to keep warm but did not light the fire in the dining area at all. The amount of wood and electricity that we used became an issue with the owner. We had very young children and adults recovering from illnesses in our party and we needed to keep warm. If the villa is to be let out at this time of year there must be an acceptable level of heating available if needed. During the course of our stay, an increasing number of housekeeping and maintenance issues came to light. Some were minor, such as dirty kitchen utensils, but others were far more serious. Photographic evidence is available for most of them. These are the most important ones: The gas water heater was temperamental and and was sometimes difficult to relight. In addition, the flue was not connected properly and the joints were loose without a proper seal. This allowed fumes into the kitchen. When reported, I was asked to push the pipes back together. (This was only noticed very near the end of our stay.) Even when working, the heater could only cope with one shower at a time, which is not really adequate for a property that can cater for so many people. There were loose, live electric switches in one of the bedrooms at toddler height. Shards of glass were on the patio - an area where people could easily have been walking barefoot and children would crawl about. The pool area was dirty, untidy and badly maintained. There was plant debris at the bottom of the pool. The owner unblocked a toilet for us but this coincided with a horrible smell developing in the adjacent ensuite. Despite pouring water down every outlet, as instructed, the smell became worse making the bedroom unpleasant and the bathroom unusable. The washing machine was outside directly under the eaves of the villa and water cascaded onto it during the heavy rain. It had been left plugged into the live mains. Not surprisingly, it didn't work. The dishwasher was also broken. Initially, our dealings with the owner were carried out in a friendly way but the relationship deteriorated as we reported more and more of the problems. He became increasingly defensive and increasingly difficult to deal with, accusing us of simply trying to find things to complain about. (We really did not need to try.) He also offered us a free week in the villa, but given its condition and our final relationship, we declined his offer. The condition of the villa at the time of our visit probably merited two and a half, rather than the two given. Had the weather been better, it would probably be a three as we would not have been so cold and would not have had the disagreements over our use of fuel. I believe that the owner has assured Tripadvisor that the issues highlighted above will be addressed and, in that event, I am sure that the next review will be more positive.

Firstly Id like to point out we cannot please all of the people all of the time . I offered yourselves a free week at the house as you rightly point out . But you used a whole lorry load of wood in less than two weeks ! In fact upon entering the lounge on one day the wood was stacked so high on the fire some fell out and everyone just stood watching in burn on the floor ! You firstly offered to buy some more for the next guests then reneged on your promise .. I have spent a whole week going round the house and addressing the areas which you have pointed out . I dont think its really in the spirit of tripadvisor to call me after your stay and offer not to review in this way if I pay you some kind of financial offer which you did . I hope my past and future reviews will go some way to disproving your comments about the house . Im pretty sure most people will realise that my house could not have fallen into such a state of disrepair in a few months . Im also sorry that the weather wasnt better for yourselves and then I would have received a fairer review and a coveted 3 stars !. Good luck with your future exacting requirements

We had a fabulous time in this villa. Terry had considered our long journey and ensured the fridge was filled with refreshments to start our holiday with a bang! Our 2 week's stay was perfect. All of our family, including a baby, had an amazing time. We enjoyed the relaxation the villa offered away from the hustle and bustle of working life. Hopefully, we'll return this year! Thanks Terry for giving us a fabulous holiday home!

Perfect villa for a large group
We've just returned from a fantastic week-long stay in Las Chimeneas, travelling as a group of 12 in April 2017. The villa was perfect for our group and we were impressed by the size and quality of the villa. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and the kitchen was excellently equipped to handle a group of our size (the dishwasher was an unexpected bonus!). We cooked in most nights and enjoyed the outdoor BBQ area which had a large table to socialise during the evenings. The living room was comfortable and spacious to retreat to when the evenings got a bit colder. The pool was a great bonus and we were lucky enough to have great weather whilst we stayed so we managed a few swims in the afternoon before it got too chilly! Terry was very helpful in the run up to our stay, providing us with detailed directions to the villa from the airport and arranging for us to pick up the keys. I would recommend a car for getting into Alora (although a few of our group walked there once or twice), it made shopping easier and there is a Mercadona only a 10-15 min drive away which was handy for a group our size. Veronica, who helped us collect the keys, was particularly helpful - dropping off an espresso maker when we asked if there was one in the villa! For climbers, this villa was the perfect spot for exploring some of the crags nearby. We visited Desplomilandia, Valle de Abdalajis and Turon (to name a few) but also enjoyed the lakes near Ardales when we explored further afield. The villa itself could have accommodated an even larger group just as comfortably too! Overall a fantastic villa/location and I'll be recommending the place to friends in the future!

Perfect Villa for large group with everything you need
We were looking for a large villa in the El Chorro area for a group of 10 climbers. Terry was very helpful with all our queries and was there to meet us on arrival. The villa is as good as it looks in the photos. The outside area was amazing with the pool and sun beds. We had a bbq the first night and had breakfast outside every morning. The kitchen had everything we needed and Terry had stocked the fridge (milk, juice, wine, beer, ice-cream) for us which was a lovely surprise. He was on hand to give advice on restaurants and organise trips. His wife also offers a home made three course meal which we had on the second night. There was loads of food, which was delicious and we finished off for lunch the next day. The area is gorgeous and we all had a great time. The price is such good value as well, particularly as the villa can sleep up to 15. Cannot recommend the villa and Terry enough, thanks for a great holiday.

A great place to enjoy time with friends!
When searching for a villa in the Alora area, the thing that first caught our eye was the price. We did not want to pay a high price for something 'posh' so the description as "a large traditional spanish farmhouse set in a great location" appealed to us. This is an accurate description of the property. Terry the owner, replied quickly to all our emails and answered our many questions in a most helpful manner. He was on hand to meet us and explained everything to us clearly and made some local recommendations. As we had only booked the main villa, Terry and his partner stayed in the apartment below so were available if we needed any assistance. There is plenty of outdoor space for everyone to relax in. There are 2 BBQ areas and plenty of outside tables and chairs which can be moved into either sun or shade. Nice pool area which was enjoyed by many of the group even though it wasn't heated! Plenty of bathroom facilities and hot water, but as is usual for most Spanish/Portugal villas it's almost impossible to get consistent hot water from several sources all at the same time! Plenty of bedding and towels for everyone. Loads of wood provided for 2 open fires which we thoroughly enjoyed. Internet access was essential for us and met our expectations. Our security deposit was returned on the day we left the property as agreed. Terry allowed 4 of our group to stay until the afternoon (without any extra fee) due to a teatime flight which was very much appreciated. If you want to relax with friends this is an ideal location with plenty of places to visit, El Chorro and the lakes being amazing. Not far from Alora with an excellent Mercadona to pick up supplies and many places to eat and drink. The coast and Malaga are both easily accessible by car or train. The property and location suited our needs in every way.

Im pleased you enjoyed your stay at the villa and was happy to allow some members stay a little longer than normally allowed . We still had time due to a few days before our next changeover so it wasnt a problem. We would love to see you again as the pool temperature is fantastic now! in March it can be hot and miss but from Mid-End April onwards usually perfect for an afternoon swim. Many thanks for your visit and kind words

Wonderful & cannot wait to return
So glad I booked this Villa as a place to celebrate my 50th Birthday. The Villa is huge, well maintained & clean. The owner Terry was extremely helpful and nothing was to much trouble for him. The area is truly beautiful with amazing views and surrounded by orange & lemon trees. The local villagers are very friendly & helpful. There is a local train service which is very reliable, cheap & runs to Malaga airport & beach resorts. My family & I loved this Villa so much we are already planning a return trip.

Totally Perfect for Large Groups
We Stayed at the villa early April 2014 and the weather was fantastic . Alora is a small town about 30-40 minutes drive from the coast but so different. The photos of the house dont do it justice it is much much bigger than it looks with nice comfy beds in nice big bedrooms and loads of bathrooms. The views are amazing from the terraces and at night there are the lights of an old convent up above Terry the owner is very friendly and helpful he had got us some beers and wine , tea , coffee , ice creams and loads of other stuff including eggs and bread and cereals for our breakfast . He waited for us until 1 am to arrive and spent time to explain things and was on hand gviing us good ideas for things to do . If you would like a peaceful get away from it all break chilling by the a pool with friends and family this place would be perfect we are going to try to come back in September !!!. The scenery is stunning and the shops are only a bout 1-2 miles away . Terrys partner operates a pop up restaurant business and we sat back and enjoyed some of the best food one night midweek during our stay . All in all great
