Finca Fenix - secluded rural retreat close to amenities

Alora, Province of Malaga, Andalucia
It is an ideal base to explore Andalusia as the Alhambra in Granada, Ronda and Malaga are all in easy reach. That said many people arrive with packed agendas planned only to shut the gates and lose themselves in their own tranquil oasis with pool, fountain and lush sub-tropical garden, picking oranges and figs from the trees with the heady scent of dame de la noche wafting in on the night breeze.

There are also the advantages of having owner on site as far as any problems, maintenance etc are concerned and also of having privacy and pretty much exclusive use of pool and garden. We take the opportunity of having guests to get some time off so we are more noticeable by our absence as we value our private times more than dangling out of windows in the role of nosy neighbour :)

Took us a while to find this hidden gem but what a place! Amazing gardens and the finca has been beautifully restored. Very well equipped with a lovely pool. Only problem was we had just three days and would have loved to have stayed longer....More

Thank goodness I managed to get away to Finca Fenix before the xmas chaos started. Things are only now slowing down and I would not have made it without that week at F/F. The garden still had blooms and the days were sunny and beautiful,...More

Very fortunate to have this 'out of season' week at Finca Fenix. Mark and Kim have done an amazing amount of work since my short stay in 2012. The terraces and gardens, even at this time of year, are beautiful. As I am not a...More

About the neighbourhood
The historic village of Álora is an charming example of a working white village, set in a beautiful valley with a Moorish castle perched upon one of the peaks, surrounded by mountains, citrus orchards, olive and almond groves.

Álora is situated 40km (30 mins drive or train) from Malaga centre or its sparkly new airport on the Costa del Sol.

The village is a quaint mix of ancient and modern steeped in history and culture but with a vibrant buzz.

You will soon learn that the lunchtime siesta is sacred - the village (including busting Monday market) goes from thronged to deserted as the locals take the opportunity to get out of the sun and share food and time with family and friends but in the evening the village comes back to life. A local speciality is a granizada (slush) made from...
