Stunning Views and Remarkable Home!
My family had a wonderful stay at your home. We spent 8 nights at the property and by the end only wish we could have stayed longer. The views are spectacular. The home is remarkably clean, spacious and comfortable. The hosts are some of the kindest people I have ever encountered. Also having access to a car was an unbelievable luxury while on Jost Van Dyke. One of the best things about this rental was the access to the hosts, any questions we had about the islands, ferries and restaurants Karen was always available. This was our first trip to BVI and I guarantee that I will be returning sooner rather than later.

The Best
We did our annual trip to the island & we stayed at our favorite place again. Karen & Nigel are the ultimate hosts and OVV has everything to make a most relaxing vacation. We use one of their rental vehicles to visit with friends & check out the changes to the island. The views & the grounds are beautiful; we like to sit on the deck and have a meal or just chill with a good book. For swimming White Bay can’t be beat & with restaurants in White Bay and Great Harbour you can always find a good meal. We enjoy waking up to the sound of the goats & if you’re lucky you’ll see a mongoose (they’re everywhere but they are shy). We can’t wait to get back & visit all our friends on Jost.

Awesomely Amazing Home Away From Home!!!
Karen and Nigel are amazing hosts! They are very responsive and leave no doubt that you're in great hands! All queries or concerns were answered in a timely manner prior to staying at the property. First class service with a taxi sent to pick us up at the ferry dock, and a warm welcome once we arrived at the property itself! The grounds are spectacular with a view to match! The villa we stayed in left nothing to chance! All the amenities one could ask for and the cozy comfort of a home away from home!!! We will definitely be returning!!

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
I have never taken the time to write a review about the places I have visited but after returning from Jost van Dyke I felt compelled to write a review of the vacation rental we stayed in. It was quite an unusual situation from the beginning of the reservation until we finally got to go. We were scheduled to go December 2017. The hurricane devastated the island September 2017. The owner, Nigel Howell, worked with us on rescheduling our trip. We finally made it October 30, 2019. I have never worked with two finer people than Nigel and his wife Karen. Their rental unit was absolutely amazing. There was everything anyone could ask for, right down to sunscreen and bug spray. Amazing rental and amazing views. The pictures are amazing but you will be surprised that it is better than the pictures. If you want to go for a stress free vacation then you need to visit Nigel and Karen at the Ocean View Villa. Jost is a great little island with very friendly, very nice residents. You can't go wrong here. I will be going back!!!!

Perfect stay on Jost Van Dyke
Like many people, we have visited Jost Van Dyke by day boat, but had never stayed on island, so we didn’t really know where to start as far as locating a villa. We chose Ocean View Villa due to its great location between White Bay and Great Harbour and because of the great reviews and most importantly the excellent attention given by the owners when I had questions about the Villa. It was just the two of us for a couples long weekend following a longer week elsewhere in the BVI and it was perfect. The Seascape Villa was a perfect couples escape. Wonderful views from all around the balconies, high up to catch the refreshing breeze in the afternoon, and I can’t put into words how wonderfully we were hosted by Nigel and Karen, they made us feel at home, rented us a car at a reasonable rate (you might not need a car if just going to white bay or great Harbour, but we like to explore the island over to east end so this made it so convenient), and even picked us up and took us back to the ferry dock! I can’t say enough about how clean our 1bedroom was, along with the rest of the grounds, they must put in so much time working to make this property a little piece of paradise, it was beautiful. This third floor room can get pretty warm in the day if you have it closed up all day, however once you open up the two main doors, the great breeze cools things right off. There is a powerful wall AC unit in the bedroom that will easily cool down the room for the night, and frankly once the doors are open in the rest of the Villa you really don’t even need AC elsewhere, it’s very comfortable. We plan to return to Jost Van Dyke in the future and it will be easy now, because there is nowhere else we need to look but Ocean View Villa! Thank you both for hosting us last weekend!

Truly amazing villa!
We stayed here the first week in July for a friends wedding taking place down the road and it was absolutely perfect! The view is the best on the island and the place itself if nicely furnished and has a powerful AC unit in each bedroom. The hike up and down is intense, but it’s like that everywhere and it is not far from anything. Our hosts were so nice and accommodating as well I will definitely be back as soon as I can!

Amazing views and Amazing hospitality. Truly the best stay on the island.
My husband and I recently traveled to Jost Van Dyke and can't stay enough good things good about our stay. We had the entire second floor suite and the views from our terrace was truly the most beautiful views I've ever seen. Nigel and Karen were so hospitable and they made our stay even more enjoyable. They have a fully equipped kitchen and the space is large enough for families. It is truly a luxurious experience and one you'll always remember. You can rent one of their cars and drive all over the island. This is the only place we would stay at if we decide to return to BVI in the future!

Counting the days to our return to paradise!
From the second we walked in the door, and was greeted by the amazing trade winds, I was in love. The house had everything we needed and more... Karen and Nigel were right there if we needed anything. So quick to respond and so accommodating! We watched the sunrises every morning over Tortola, listening to the goats holler, and in the evening we would go to the other patio to watch the sunset over white bay. Walking down to white bay or foxys was an adventure, but doable. We would taxi up if needed (walked up a few times). I think next time we come (and there will be a next time, soon!) I think we will rent the vehicle that Nigel and Karen offer. Outside of the house, our favorite things about being at Jost was just how off the radar it was, how friendly everyone was, the laid back feeling was so amazing. Anytime we would visit with other vacationers, and they would ask if we were on island or on a boat... we would point to the house on the top of the hill and say "thats where we are staying". Watching their jaw drop and be insanely envious of our spot, our views... became quite comical.

Amazing in every possible way!
We just returned from a simply wonderful week at the Ocean View Villa. Karen and Nigel have paid attention to every detail. The villa is very well appointed with anything you could possibly want or need, not to mention the breathtaking views of not one, but two spectacular harbors. There is a view in every direction. Karen and Nigel are the kindest people, and will accommodate you to meet every need for your vacation. The villa is sparkling clean, and extremely well maintained. We cannot wait for another trip back!

Great to be back and see old friends
It was our first time back to Jost Van Dyke since Irma. It was great to see the island is recovering and everyone is now safe. Staying at Ocean View Villas was fantastic. The accommodations and the views are top shelf. Even better than that are the host, Nigel and Karen. We have known them for many years and they continue to hit hospitality out of the park. You talk to anyone on the island and tell them where you are staying and their first comment is “aren’t Nigel and Karen the nicest people”. My wife and I recommend staying at Ocean View Villas without any concerns. Just do not take the week we want to go next year. Thanks Nigel and Karen!

About the neighbourhood
Jost Van Dyke is an island in the British Virgin Islands. An easy and beautiful sail from Tortola and the home of the notorious rum Painkiller. Getting In: The only way to get to Jost Van Dyke is by sea. Ferries run daily to Great Harbour, home of the largest settlement, from West End in Tortola. If visiting from the U.S. Virgin Islands, ferries run from St. Thomas, USVI (with a stop in Cruz Bay, St. John, USVI) and continue to Jost Van Dyke. Ferry schedules vary from season to season. But this service from St. Thomas and St. John generally runs Monday - Wednesday and then Friday - Sunday with an early morning departure getting visitors to Jost around 10AM and a return to the USVI's departing from Jost van Dyke around 3:30PM. A valid passport is required for entry. Ferry costs are reasonable and include any fees required for entry into the BVI's from the USVI's. For example, the cost for the ferry from St. John USVI to Jost van Dyke is $70 US per person round trip, including the customs fee. There is an additional $5 departure fee per person from St. John. Dolphin Water Shuttle runs daily from the US Virgin Islands (340-774-BOAT). For those with their own boat, you can pick up a mooring for the night in Great Harbour, Little Harbour or White Bay. White Bay is a popular daytime anchorage and may not be comfortable and/or safe overnight under some conditions. Diamond Cay on the north side of the island has moorings as well. From Tortola (BVI), the only ferry schedule is New Horizon Ferry Schedule, leaving West End. See Tortola to Jost Van Dyke Ferry Schedule. Getting around: Walking is the easiest method of transportation on the island. Paths and roads are available between each population center, bay and beach. The island is very hilly and can be muddy in the frequent rainstorms, so it's not the easiest place for those with disabilities, etc. Several taxi services are available, but operate very erratically. Don't expect lightning service... plan ahead. Taxi to White Bay costs around 5$ per person (3+) If arriving by ferry, taxis are waiting to take guests to popular spots like White Bay. Guests can arrange with taxi drivers in advance for a time and location to be picked up and returned to the ferry dock. 4x4s and vehicles can be rented from locals. No chains here. Two reliable companies are Abe & Eunice's and Paradise car rental, they are very effective for getting around. Most business is done on a handshake and smile on island. They will accept cash for your rental. Renters are instructed to leave the vehicle at the ferry dock on the day of departure with the keys under the mat. Vehicles are not always necessary if you are up for some energetic walking. However, the island is very hilly and if you want to venture beyond White Bay and the popular tourist spots, a taxi or vehicle is advisable. Things to see: If you have a dinghy or want to make a stop with your sailboat along the way, do yourself a favor and stop by uninhabited Sandy Cay right along the way to Jost Van Dyke. It has one of the most spectacular sandy beaches available, is usually not too crowded, and even has a path around the island so you can look at the local flora and fauna. Please note that during some seasons the beach can be a little buggy, but the slightest breeze will take care of this problem. On the northeastern end of the island, near Diamond Cay, is a surf-fed 'Bubbly Pool' that is a tourist attraction when the swells are running. It's an easy walk from Foxy's 'other' bar, Foxy's Taboo. Jost Van Dyke is internationally famous for Foxy’s Old Year’s Night (New Year’s Eve) party in Great Harbour But beyond Foxy's bars and the beaches, there's not a lot to 'see' beyond stunning natural vistas. Things to do: Walking between the tiny main 'town' on Great Harbor, up over the hill to White Bay is one of more peaceful, beautiful short walks in the Caribbean, allowing views from Tortola all the way across St. John to St. Thomas in the distance. Shoes for this hike are advisable as the terrain is rocky. It can be done barefoot, but people usually regret this choice half-way through this hike. Highly fit folks may consider hiking up to the highest point on JVD, 1000' high Majohnny Hill with stunning 360 degree views across the Caribbean. This is a significant undertaking however. Some people do it in 4x4s (available for rent by local 'mom and pop' type companies). The point of being on JVD is to do pretty much nothing. Stare at St. John. Rub suntan lotion into your companion's back. turn the page in your paperback. Maybe. Shout up to the Soggy Dollar Bar for them to bring you another Painkiller please! Jost Van Dyke also contains the popular snorkeling spots of Little Jost Van Dyke, Sandy Cay, Green Cay and the tiny Sandy Spit. For the adventurous, hotels will be happy to arrange excursions for Deep Sea fishing, Sailing trips, or day trips to uninhabited specs of perfection like Sandy Cay. Jost Van Dyke Scuba, Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke (right on the beach), ☎ 1.284.495.0271, [1]. 8AM - 6PM. Jost Van Dyke's only scuba diving operator! A full service dive shop offering dive charters, free delivery on equipment rentals, snorkeling and eco-tours and more! Explore some of the most remote and undiscovered diving in the BVI. 40+ unmarked dive sites. Also offering free pick-up and delivery from Tortola saving you the cost of a ferry! edit Buying The U.S. Dollar is the currency of Jost Van Dyke. Most establishments take major credit cards (Visa, MC and for the most part American Express). However, be aware that your credit card company will likely attach a 'foreign transaction fee' to every credit card purchase made in the BVI's --even though you are using the U.S. dollar. Check with your credit card company in advance to avoid any surprises. It is also advisable that you notify your credit card companies of your dates and location of travel to avoid your card being 'turned off.' There are NO ATM's on Jost van Dyke. So be sure to bring cash with you if you intend to use it. In a pinch, some retailers may give you a 'cash advance' if using your credit card for a purchase, but this is rare and entirely up to the shop owner. Shopping is limited on Jost beyond food, drink, and lodging. The main shopping strip is in Great Harbor and along a sandy road parallel to the beach. There are a variety of little shops, selling locally made goods or some unique items beyond the usual t-shirts. But Jost is not someplace you come to shop. Foxy's has a nice gift shop with a variety of items and Sandcastle will sell you a T-shirt, beach cover up or hat. Wendell's World is a great location to find a variety of gift items. There are very limited grocery options. Best bet is to provision on Tortola You can shop on-line in advance for your groceries and have them meet you at the West End ferry landing dock. Some services will deliver to the ferry dock at Great Harbor. Delivery is generally free, with few exceptions and prices are comparable to grocery prices throughout the Caribbean. Eating Out Great Bay, White Bay, and Little Bay all have restaurants in one form or another, but each runs on a different schedule, more or less at the whim of its owner. Visitors should not expect fast service and should plan their time on island accordingly. Many foods are made from scratch to order and there is no such thing as fast food. So don't wait until you are starving to go somewhere to eat. The same applies to your drinks. When you're halfway done, order another. By the time you finish the first drink the second one will finally show up. Wander throughout the island of Jost Van Dyke and you're sure to find something interesting...great flying fish sandwiches, burgers, chicken and the like. Roti is a local favorite and something generally found only in the BVI's. Essentially, a wrap of curried chicken or goat, mixed with potatoes and served with a marmalade on the side. Foxy's is known to have BBQ night on Fridays and Saturdays that will fill you up quite well. Ivan's on White Bay does a similar night on Thursdays. Reservations for Foxy's BBQ night are strongly encouraged. Corsair's has some of the best food in all the BVI. One Love Bar is just down the beach from Soggy Dollar and has excellent food ranging from Caribbean lobster to sandwiches. They also have good live music almost daily. Gertrudes is a decent spot for wings or casual food. You can also rent a beach chair and hang out for the day. Soggy Dollar serves food in addition to their famous painkillers. Christines Bakery is a good spot to grab cookies or baked goods. Their specialty are their breads in several varieties. Ali Babas is a nice spot for breakfast where you can hang out with the locals and have a beer with your eggs. The bar is a pleasant place to hang for a few hours. Harris Place in Little Harbor has the largest and freshest lobsters you can find in both Big and Little Harbor! Harris's place is run by the wife of the late Harris Jones, who built the restaurant in the early 80's. Harris's Place also has an all-you-can-eat lobster night, pea soup to die for, and homemade pies, bread, and hot sauce all made by the owner! Also a do-it-yourself bar...any drink any way YOU want to make it! Cynthia Jones, daughter of Harris, makes sure to keep the atmosphere live with a live band almost every night. The customer is sure to get treated with genuine islander love. Harris Place has a quote over the entrance of the kitchen that say's 'Worry is like a rocking chair, keeps you busy but never gets you anywhere!' You just have to visit if ever in the harbor! Drink: The island specialty is the 'Painkiller' made famous by the Soggy Dollar Bar. A lethal combination of Pussers dark rum, cream of coconut, pineapple juice and orange juice -- finished off with a sprinkle of freshly ground nutmeg (or island viagra as locals refer to it). A simple recipe for a Painkiller is four parts pineapple juice, one part orange juice, one part 'Coco Lopez' (sweetened cream of coconut), and dark rum to taste. A little nutmeg finishes off the drink. Liquor throughout the Virgin islands are generally extremely inexpensive. 'Pour Man' (a pun for pour your own) or 'honor bars' are common on Jost. Liquor and mixers are left out for guests to help themselves and guests keep track of what they drink on their own. When it's time to leave guests provide the list of what they consumed to the restaurant or bar. Alternatively, guests can tell the bartender what they want and they are handed the fixings to make the drink. Oddly enough in this circumstance the restaurants do better since non-locals will generally load up on the liquor in their drinks and minimize the mixers. When in fact the mixers may cost more than the liquor. It's important that you be honest and forthright about your consumption and pay accordingly. White Bay has the Soggy Dollar Bar, as well as several other establishments along the beach front for food and beverages. Great Harbour has Foxy's, and Little Bay has Sidney's Peace and Love Bar, Harris' Place, and Abe's. (Order a Painkiller from each and see which one has the recipe down best). Get out[edit] Getting out, like getting in, means by ferry or private boat. There is no air service. Cruise ships make limited stops for their guests to enjoy the island. Check the ferry schedule carefully and inquire in advance about schedules as these can change from time to time and vary from season to season. Ferry costs are reasonable and include any fees required for entry. Cost for the ferry from St. John USVI to Jost van Dyke is $70 US round trip. Round trip to Tortola (West End) costs 25$. Private boats/water taxis from the other Virgin Islands (U.S. and British) are quite expensive, but you can sometimes get a local guy to take you to other islands (including Tortola or St. Thomas) for less than the 'established' water taxis.
