Perfect gem of a house in the perfect area. We didn't get to enjoy all the amenities or hiking/Mtn biking in the area but we hope to be back. The owners offer every convenience and all you could wish for; hence the name "Genie house"....More

The Shady House is in a beautiful rural location! The space has lots of character and accommodated us well enough. We were even allowed to have two smaller dogs stay. Kate (the owner) is kind and a breath of fresh air. She communicated with me...More

About the neighbourhood
Sitting on the front porch, I am looking at the most spectacular view of the mountains. It is quite with a constant breeze through the valley. Completely surrounded by mountains, the very small community is not accustom to tourist. But I know about all 987 people in Shady Valley and may be related to most of them some way. I can see the crossroads of hwy 91 and US 421 - most popularly known to motorcyclists as 'The Snake'. I haven't seen a car in about 20 minutes, so i decide to walk down the road to get a biscuit at the Shady Diner. As I walk in, my niece and I are greeted with a friendly hello and prompt service. I got a egg and cheese biscuit and large coffee - and she got a chicken biscuit (real chicken) and an orange juice. We paid 6.04. There were about 5 people... more

How to get there
Be prepared for curvy mountains, slow long peaceful drives with beautiful views everywhere you go. Don't be in a hurry, the drive is the best part! The curviest part is at the end and lasts about 10-20 mins depending from which mountain you cross to get to 'the bowl of the Appalachia' Very easy to find with current technology. All main roads. Just very country and mountainous. Just look at Google earth view of East Tennessee and you will see where you are going.
