Wi-fi is available from the router in the main house. However, due to our location (or during busy periods) the signal can become intermittent. The best location within the cottage for accessing the wi-fi is the lounge / dining area or anywhere within the courtyard. The cottage is situated in the countryside between Stranraer & Portpatrick. Along with shops & supermarkets Stranraer also has a leisure centre with swimming pool and water flumes & also a cinema & theatre. Agnew Park is located on the sea-front & offers a restaurant / coffee shop, boating lake, peddle go-carts, miniature railway and play area - all of which are accessible during the summer months. Stranraer itself is steeped with history and in the centre of the town sits Castle of St. John which provides fantastic rooftop views across the town & surrounding area & out to sea along Loch Ryan. Many more castles, abbeys, kirks and places of historic interest are located in the area. In the opposite direction & within the delightful harbour village of Portpatrick you will find a golf course, putting green, tennis courts, children's play area, amusement arcade and small sandy beach. There is a wide choice of pubs and restaurants which provide an excellent selection of meals, most of which offer views over the harbour & out across the Irish Sea. Being situated on the West Coast, Portpatrick also takes full advantage of the beautiful summer sunsets. On either side of Portpatrick village there are clifftop walks, both of which are accessible via steps up the cliffs. The steps to the North provide access to the first / last section of the Southern Upland Way which stretches 212 miles to Cockburnspath on the North East coast. The steps to the South give access to a footpath leading to the ruins of Dunskey Castle, situated on the clifftops looking out to sea. From the cottage there is easy access to a number of local beaches ranging from miles of gently sloping sandy beaches along Luce Bay, to more rugged beaches with cliffs, rock-pools, caves and quiet little coves just waiting to be explored. The Mull of Galloway - Scotlands most Southerly point - is just 22 miles away along a beautiful coastal route which passes through a number of local villages, many of which have shops, coffee shops, pubs and restaurants. The Mull itself is home to the Ghallie Craig coffee and gift shop. Built into the cliffs & with a turf-roof, its huge glass windows offer views towards Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Lake District hills. The Mull of Galloway lighthouse which is located close to the restaurant & sits within an RSPB site is open to visitors who may wish to climb the steps to the viewing platform at the top. The RSPB visitor centre provides interesting information, videos and webcams which observe the birds who nest along the cliffs. There are a number of golf courses within easy reach from the cottage, with the world famous 'Trump Turnberry' Golf Course just an hour's drive away. Local fishing facilities include lochs, rivers, beach and sea fishing from the shores or rocks. Fishing boat trips are also available from Stranraer, Portpatrick or Girvan which is further up the coast. For those wishing to venture further afield the Irish ferries provide day trips to Belfast and Larne from the ports at Cairnryan just a 20 minute drive away. A visit to the City of Belfast & the world famous Titanic Exhibition is an excellent day out for all the family. Trips to Giant's Causeway and the Antrim Coast are also very enjoyable. The towns of Girvan and Ayr are just over an hour's drive along the scenic A77 coast road and day trips to both Glasgow and Edinburgh can be enjoyed with an early start. More

A warm welcome from Viv who showed us around the accomodation, which was ideally located for us to participate in the Skiffie World Championships and explore this beautiful area of Galloway. The accomodation was spacious and well equipped for 4.

About the neighbourhood
We are situated on the old military road which was one the main link between Stranraer & Portpatrick. We are surrounded by farm fields & some forestry paths which are easily accessible from the cottage. The nearest beach to the West of Stranraer can be accessed within 5 - 10 minutes & there is also a small beach at Portpatrick. The gently-sloping 8 mile long sandy beach at Sandhead just a few miles away, is the perfect place for children to safely play & swim in the sea.
Getting around
We would strongly recommend guests travel to us by car especially with children since we are not located on a bus route. There are taxi firms available in Stranraer & for those who like to walk, the centre town can be reached on foot in 20 - 30 minutes.
