Welcome to Ruantallain Estate, owned and lovingly managed by the Bury family since 1984. Ruantallain is a spectacular estate of 20,000 acres lying coast to coast across the middle of the Hebridean Isle of Jura, with Loch Tarbert at its southern boundary. Reaching across to the stunning, inaccessible western coast of the island, the estate boasts some of the most beautiful and rugged terrain in Scotland, much of which can only be reached via boat or on foot. It offers fantastic, unique opportunities for family and group self-catering holidays and is a wonderful way to introduce children to the timeless adventure and wildness of the Scottish islands. Accommodation is in the Ruantallain Lodge, a large traditional log cabin, sitting on the shores of Tarbert Bay on the Sound of Jura at the island’s narrowest point, allowing easy walking access to both coasts. The shallow, sheltered waters of the bay are perfect for paddling, wild swimming, SUP and kayaking and the rocky coastline can be explored by scrambling on foot in both directions. There is good mackerel and pollack fishing and crabbing directly from the coast and plentiful brown trout in the inland lochs. Sea eagles and golden eagles, seals, sea otters and dolphin are all regular visitors to the skies and seas around the lodge. Fishing, guided and wild food walks and other activities can be arranged and booked separately. Accommodation Set in a glorious location on the shore edge, sheltered from the ferocity of the Atlantic winter storms, with beautiful wild gardens, Ruantallain Lodge has magnificent views across Tarbert Bay and the Sound of Jura towards the Kintyre peninsular. The modest wooden lodge offers simple, homely comfort with spectacular landscape views, best enjoyed by a cosy wood fire with a dram in hand. The main house sleeps 21 people in the following rooms: 2 Double rooms, one ensuite. 5 Twin rooms 1 Single room. 4 bathrooms, excluding the ensuite There is also a dining and breakfast room with a piano, a spacious sitting room with views over the bay and a good selection of books, a fully equipped kitchen and a drying room for boots and wet clothes (and dog towels!). NB For groups of 8 or fewer people only one half of the lodge is open, although guests will still have access to the shed and games room. Shed 1 bunk room, primarily for children - 2 sets of bunk beds + 1 single full size bed. Toilet and wash basin with cold water only. The large adjacent wooden shed has a full sized snooker table and table tennis table, as well as additional bunk room with toilet and cold water wash basin and open plan work spaces that could be used for indoor group activities. Dogs are very welcome!More
