Largs has a long history linked with the Vikings. The iconic monument The Pencil; marks the Battle of Largs in 1263 and every year in early September there is week-long Viking Festival. Throughout the summer there are activities and events including sailing regattas at the Yacht Haven and displays of powerboats at the port. There are several golf courses, both private and municipal, closeby.
