About the neighbourhood
North Tawton is an old town on the River Taw where farming and wool mills were once the main industry. Now farming remains central to the area along with the local cheese factory producing award winning cheeses which can be bought in the factory shop. In the town there are local shops - Butchers, Post Office, Spar, Pharmacy, Deli/cafe and gift shop. There are 3 pubs offering food and an excellent fish and chip shop There are several walks around the area as well as easy access to Dartmoor from nearby Okehampton. This is an area popular with cyclists and walkers and a very unspoiled part of Devon where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside. The North Devon and Cornwall coast can be reached in about 45 minutes as can Exmouth and East Devon beaches.
Getting around
Although not absolutely essential a car is recommended if you want to travel around the area. There is a bus service to North Tawton from Exeter, where there's a railway station and coach station. Exeter Airport is about 20 miles away. There are several cycle trails in the area.
