It is situated in a peaceful rural area in the south of Ireland overlooking the Blackwater River and Knockmealdown mountains. The house has a large living room with wood stove, fully equipped kitchen, three bedrooms (2 double, 1 twin) and bathroom with bath and electric shower. Beside the house is a storeroom which contains wood for the stove (recycled driftwood) and can also be used for storage of any equipment you may have (bike, kayak etc.). 'The Cottage' is an ideal base to explore the south of Ireland, popular activities include walking and trekking, cycling, fishing, golf, horse riding, water sports and of course enjoying Irish heritage and culture. Walking, cycling, fishing and water sports can all be enjoyed in the immediate vicinity of the cottage, just open the door to get out on the narrow road (hardly any traffic) and enjoy the spectacular views over the river, which is renowned for salmon- and trout fishing. A few hundred meters down the road is a small quay where you can take your boat or kayak on to the river. It is also possible to rent kayaks nearby. The nearest villages are Aglish and Villierstown, both about 2 miles away. The south coast is only a 20 minute drive and offers large sandy beaches and tiny coves between Dungarvan and Youghal. Inland you will find 2 mountain ranges, the Knockmealdowns and the Comeraghs, which are a paradise for trekkers and cyclists, the breathtaking views can be admired by car as well. A visit to Ireland is not complete without experiencing Irish hospitality and culture. Historic towns like Lismore, Ardmore, Youghal and Dungarvan have plenty to offer. All have pubs and restaurants, most pubs have regular live music sessions. Lismore is known for its magnificent castle. It also harbours an excellent heritage center, a golf course and plenty of walking trails around the town and in the Knockmealdown mountains. In Ardmore you can visit St. Declans tower and admire the sea views by walking the historic cliff walk. It has a large sandy beach and the adventure center offers kayaking and other activities. On your way to Youghal a bridge will lead you across the Blackwater River where it meets the sea. Youghal is just around the corner and features a little harbour, a large sandy beach, historic clock tower and town walls and a golf course. It's a paradise for water sports, boat trips and fishing. Dungarvan is the largest town, also with a harbour and beach. The newly opened Waterford Greenway starts here, a 46 km long cycling or walking trail with lovely scenery and bike rental available. It has 3 golf courses, award winning restaurant 'The Tannery', a cinema and a shopping centre. Both Youghal and Dungarvan host several festivals during the summer months. 'The Cottage' is a great place to relax, unwind and recharge, be it curled up on the couch in front of the cosy wood stove or outside on the patio enjoying the tranquillity and stunning views. We hope to welcome you soon! More
