OUR LITTLE TOWER, part of a lookout system on the border territory between the warring Guelphs and Ghibellines, was here before Dante. Around it, in some of the loveliest countryside in Umbria, grew the house: room after room added over the centuries as they were needed by small scake farmers.. By the end of World War II it housed four 'hearths' or extended families; some fifty people and their livestock.
TODAY THE OLD FARM is a charming country house, set around a plant filled atrium. It is rich in unexpected corners for seclusion and quiet, even when filled to capacity or when children are running about. Although it sleeps nine it is not too rambling for small groups and couples.

Still relatively undiscovered, not yet plagued by dense summer crowds, Umbria is the other Tuscany. But, it owes nothing to the original in the beauty of its countryside, the richness and variety of its history, art and architecture, of it museums, theatres and music festivals.
This 'green heart of Italy', takes pride in its leisurely pace of life. The low mountains that rise from the banks of the Tiber between Orvieto and Todi are dotted with tiny, isolated medieval hamlets. Acqualoreto, the nearest of these, 2 kms away from the house, was built in the 10th century to survey the Forello Gorge. Although now partially flooded by Lake Corbara, this gorge is still marvellous walking country.
