Right on the Bernera path, fish in the loch, my husband caught a sea trout off the bridge. Lovely Community Center for tea and informative museum of all things local Callanish Stones nearby with tasty cafe. Loved driving on the one lane roads!

We, as a couple, had an excellent relaxing stay at Valasay. What a lovely retreat away from the rest of the world in a beautiful location. The cottage as clean and well equipped. Highly recommend.

My boyfriend proposed to me on Christmas Day and booked Valasay Cottage for a week as a nice surprise to celebrate our engagement, my birthday, and New Year's. The weather on Lewis was pretty bad, so we didn't really feel that motivated to go outside....More

Very impressed with the cottage, very well presented, cosy and very clean. It's location is stunning, so very peaceful too. Close to lovely countryside and beach walks. We are nature enthusiasts so delighted to see local wildlife. Owners extremely helpful, great communication and information.

The cottage, whilst remote was well presented, well equipped and very clean and a good base for visiting the islands with a great beachnearby. Perfect for a getaway. Would advise picking up most groceries en route in a large Town such as Stornoway. Wi-Fi signal...More

About the neighbourhood
Valasay Cottage commands a picturesque setting with spectacular Atlantic sea views. The cottage is reached by crossing a footbridge over Tob Bhalasaigh (Valasay Bay / Cove). Tob Bhalasaigh is designated as a priority site of special scientific interest as a sheltered lagoon with a rare mixture of seaweeds only found in this unusual mix of salt and fresh water. Otters are frequently seen, both in the Tob and along the seashore. Bernera lies in Loch Roag on the north-west coast of Lewis and is connected to Lewis by a single-lane road bridge built in 1953. The bridge was, at the time, the first pre-stressed concrete bridge in Europe. The island's name is Norse in origin as are many other names in the district, due to the extensive Norse settlement.
