2 BR / 1 BA (K, 2S, SS) - Sleeps 6 - A classic cottage nestled in the dunes on the St. Helena Sound beach front. Perfect for small families and your can bring your pet! The Great room is huge with the kitchen area as you come in the street side door. The dining table is in the middle of the room and the seating area has large windows that look out through the screen porch to the beach. Plenty of window units to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Come relax in the porch rockers with spectacular sunset views. The full hall bath(tub/shower combination) is near the kitchen with a bedroom across the hall with 2 single beds(no TV). Adjacent to the living room is another bedroom with a king size bed(with TV). Quaint, not upscale
If you want all the super-amenities and upscale wondershit, don't rent this. But, if you want a small, unpretentious, fairly private place, right on the beach - this is your spot. (Listing pics show wood paneling - it's white now. It's a crime that someone painted what was glorious knotty pine cabinets and paneling!!!!!!)

READ BEFORE BOOKING
Overall Sea Urchin Cabin is okay, but the window units DO NOT keep the house cool. Beds were covered in dog hair when we arrived. The rental company did bring all new mattress covers, pillows, bed spreads. Utensils and cookware in kitchen are very random and missing several things that we needed. I would not recommend this house. Great location, nice layout, but the biggest issue, the window units are not good enough to keep the house at a reasonable temperature. We haven’t quit sweating since we arrived. Please be aware if you rent this house.

Read before staying here
Place in need of major updating! Microwave still here and on last leg. Overgrown landscaping blocks view - very snakey! Outdoor shower is a joke- just a hose. Driveway is hard to maneuver in. Musty smell- had to burn candle. Would not stay again!

Sea Urchin
The house was right on the ocean and secluded by trees on both sides which we liked for privacy and quiet. The window unit acs kept it very cool and we loved the screened porch and outdoor shower with foot rinse hose. The parking underneath the house was also great. Finally, the sunsets on the beach each night on St. Helena Sound were amazing.
A few things would make the house better: 1) wifi; 2) an outlet in bathroom; 3) more chairs for the dining table--there were only 3 for a table with space for 6.
We loved the location and would definitely stay there again!

Rustic getaway in the dunes overlooking the ocean
My wife, 11 yr old daughter and myself had a fantastic stay. This little cottage was exactly what we were looking for -- clean, comfortable and perfectly located. It felt secluded and private but was close to town, shops and restaurants. A great base of operations for beach combing and other adventures.

Clean, but very out dated.
The home was very dated. Extremely old but floors, bathroom, kitchen was clean. We had to bring our own linens, which was fine, but I would not sleep on the mattress pads because they were fifthly. I put them outside for fear of what could have been in them and returned them to the bed once we were leaving.
TV's were very old and it took me all weekend to figure out how to work them as they had no up and down channel or volume but you had to push 2 to go up and 8 to go down and 5 for select. Weird....
When my children got in and out of their twin beds in the room behind the master, I could feel the whole house move. The moving of the house made me very uncomfortable.
No dishwasher, microwave is on it's last leg which we assumed would have been replaced because we read that in a review from a year earlier. It took us an hour to get to Charleston each day, which was fine, but just so people will know how far away they are.
The beach was beautiful, lots of shells.
Overall I think house is stable, but very basic and no extra frills.

Thank you so much for letting us know about your 2016 vacation to "Sea Urchin". The homes is one of the last "classic beach cottages" left but the items you mention absolutely need attention. We have contacted the homeowners and I am sure that the TV, Microwave will be address. These older homes will sway and creaks when others are moving around. I have already spoken with housekeeping and our policy is to replace worn our mattress pads and pillows as needed. Thank you for letting us know about your vacation and we hope that you will be able to visit again.

Spring on Edisto
Loved our rental, had an awesome stay.
For a crew of country girls this rental was great. Rustic and would fit a mountain setting perfectly. If looking for sleek or perfection this place is not for you.
Although roomy and easy beach access it sure needs a bit of TLC and maybe a good spring cleaning. No washer and dryer, microwave was on its last leg, lacked proper dishware. We don't cook on vacation so no problem for us. All we needed was the microwave. Very nice screened in porch and outside deck.
The greenery around the home blocks the ocean view and could us a good trimming and thinning out. Danger of encountering snakes on the path. Yea, it was March but we did encounter one.
The island itself is so laid back. No big name stores or shops here. My kind of place.
Yes, I would very much recommend this place if you are looking for a laid back vacation and privacy.

We are so glad that you enjoyed Sea Urchin. It is a great classic beach cottage that makes you feel right at home. It is time for the yard clean up and we will be getting it done within the next few weeks. Also we are doing the spring clean. Hope you can come back to Edisto again soon.
