About the neighbourhood
Eastern Oregon is famous for it's rugged landscapes and rural friendly towns. The pioneer town of Mitchell is a great base to explore the 3 units of John Day Fossil Beds National Monument .The Painted Hills have become world famous and are around the corner while the other 2 units as well as the Thomas Condon Paleontology museum are 1 hour away by car on the beautiful Journey through Time Scenic Byway. There is a gas station, general store, espresso bar, and restaurants in town as well as a small quirky rock museum. The next river access is 9 miles beyond the Painted Hills along the John Day River with a great swimming hole or two .There is wildlife such as deer and antelope, bird watching, fishing, and star gazing in the nights. Eastern Oregon is one big adventure and invitation to reconnect with nature.
Getting around
You need your own car with good tires and a good spare. Some of the best places are on rugged country road.
