Region: The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers. Town: The tiny village of Lastingham is a quiet haven on the edge of the North York Moors with beautiful countryside all around it. The best known building in the village is the Crypt Church of St Mary with its ancient crypt. St Cedd founded a monastery in Lastingham in the 7th Century, but it was destroyed by the Danes in the 9th Century. Pickering is seven miles away and is home to The Beck Isle Museum, which is housed in a handsome Regency property near the centre of the town. Other attractions in the town include The North Yorks Moors Steam Railway. Brilliant cottage & village
