About the neighbourhood
Freshwater Bay is in an area of outstanding natural beauty with wonderful cliff-top walks, such as Tennyson Down and the Heritage Coastal Trail to the Needles, with breathtaking views of the Channel and Solent. This is where Lord Alfred Tennyson, the Victorian Poet Laureate, sought inspiration for his writing and the Farringford, his old home, is just up the road. Inland from the bay is Afton Marsh Nature Trail and Freshwater Way leading to the River Yar and the picturesque harbour town of Yarmouth. The 18 hole Freshwater Bay Golf Club is a 10 minute walk up the other side of the bay.

Other local places to visit include The Needles Old Battery (a Victorian fort and rocket testing site), Afton Down (site of the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival), Dimbola Lodge (museum and former home of pionee...
