Wirksworth is a small town in the Derbyshire countryside at the gateway to the Peak District .The town has a market place with splendid old buildings and is now a thriving arts venue having an annual arts festival held in September. Situated about 13 miles North of Derby and 4 miles from Matlock, Wirksworth offers both beautiful countryside and a fascinating local history.

The area is rich in historical interest. It is known to have been settled by the Romans who came to mine for lead.
