The cottage is over 200 years old and for a period functioned as a village school, despite its small size. Situated on a quiet street there are good views of the countryside. The accommodation consists of a kitchen/dining room and bathroom/toilet on the ground floor. Upstairs, the ceiling has been removed to give a high living room with windows in the roof and walls. At one end, a sleeping platform with double bed can be entered using a sliding ladder. Alternatively there is a double sofa-bed in the living room. The cottage is suitable for two people or a couple with a child. One well-behaved pet welcome - additional charge payable. The well equipped kitchen even has its own herb garden. Secure bike shed on site. Designated parking at the rear of our house.

The Spook is the epitome of cosiness, with a uniquely quirky and surprisingly spacious layout. Everything you could need is there, with a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, both spotlessly clean on arrival. The bed is very comfortable and the decor is quaint but tasteful....More

About the neighbourhood
Winster is an old lead-mining village, situated on a hillside a little reminiscent of Cornwall. Miners from Cornwall came to help with the mining in this area and influenced the layout of the village. We are close to both Haddon Hall and Chatsworth and you can walk for miles from the cottage. Cycling is also possible on the local trails but slightly hilly to get there so make sure you have gears or a bike rack! The area is geared up for tourism and has everything from a theme park, Gullivers Kingdom to the quietness of Stanton Moors where you can find several stone circles. We live next door so always happy to help providing information and a pick up from Matlock Station if need be.
