Tucked away down a rural track and set on the owner’s livery yard, Gables Lodge is a detached, two-storey log cabin, and is the perfect getaway for those looking for a relaxing holiday. Sleeping a total of six people in three spacious bedrooms, the lodge also offers the option of two ground floor bedrooms, and both floors have bathrooms. Located on the outskirts of the village of Foston, Gables Lodge is just a 5 minute drive away from the historic village of Tutbury which has a variety of amenities including a museum, and its very own Norman castle where Mary Queen of Scots was once held prisoner. A number of scenic walks can be taken including those that trail through the ancient woodland at Needwood Forest which bursts into life with a carpet of bluebells each spring. A little further afield is the National Brewery Centre in Burton-on-Trent, whilst the National Memorial Arboretum is just 6 miles away and definitely worth a visit. The peace and quiet of the Peak District National Park, with its maze of footpaths and cycle routes, is within easy reach, as is the magnificent Cannock Chase and the Tissington Trail. The Peak District boasts an array of shops, Marstons and Coors breweries, and the village of Hartington, the heart of blue cheese. Take time to visit one of the local, historic estates including Chatsworth House, Shugborough Hall, Kedleston Hall and nearby Sudbury Hall and its Museum of Childhood, offering a fascinating insight into days gone by. The market town of Ashbourne is within driving distance, with its eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys and quaint coaching inns. Ashbourne is something of a haven for antique hunters, boasting superb shops, as well as offering a variety of good pubs and restaurants. The Dove and Manifold valleys, Tittesworth and Carsington reservoirs, and the thrills of Alton Towers are also an easy drive. Uttoxeter racecourse is just 10 minutes away, Donnington Park motor racing is 15 minutes away, and Barton Marina, 8 miles, hosts many shops and restaurants. The Lighthouse restaurant at Boylestone, 15 minutes’ drive, was voted Derbyshire Restaurant of the Year and features in Michelin, Good Food and Harden’s Guides. There are also local farm shops, 10 miles away, and micro pubs and cafes within 3 miles. Gables Lodge also offers day care for your dog which is next to the property. This really is a fantastic, relaxing location to enjoy all year round.
