The Studio apartment is within the grand house of Hôtel de Gensac. Built around 1735 this 'hôtel particulier' (private mansion) is one of the historic and architecturally important houses of the town. During the Hundred Years' War, King Edward III installed his son as the administrator of this region of France. Known later by the sobriquet 'The Black Prince', the ruins of his palace chapel still remain as part of the mansion's fabric, helping to warrant its inclusion on one of the town's historic-sites walks. Known later by the sobriquet 'The Black Prince', the ruins of his palace chapel still remain as part of the mansion's fabric, helping to warrant its inclusion on one of the town's historic-sites walks. The Studio's separate bedroom sleeps two comfortably. The tastefully tiled bathroom contains double basins, shower, wc and heated towel rail. A living area accommodates two comfortably, with a well-equipped kitchenette and eating area. Folding glazed doors open onto a tiled patio, making a very useful and attractive outdoor area for alfresco dining. The Studio apartment is accessed from the patio which is itself accessed via a gate opening onto La Petite Rue, Hotel de Ville. Unloading is allowed there but parking is in the public parking area 50 metres away. The patio is a private communal area for the apartments. Our private 6m x 12m pool and the pool area is available to guests between 10.00am (1000hrs) and 6pm (1800hrs). Although the pool is accessed through the garden , the gardens are not available to guests. Leave the apartment by its secure private gate and you are at once in the typically Gascon town of Condom - rich in history, ancient buildings, museums and Roman artefacts. It is dominated by the magnificent cathedral of Saint-Pierre and dissected by the River Baîse, still with the quays once used to load barges with Armagnac brandy en route to Bordeaux. Restaurants and cafes abound to suit all tastes and pockets. Good shops and a twice-weekly market are very close by for all self-catering needs. Just outside the town lies the beautiful countryside of The Gers - the very heart of Gascony. No suburbs, no industry, just gently rolling, well farmed fields and woodland interspersed with Bastide villages, fortified towns, ancient religious buildings, Chateaux and Gallo-Roman sites. They are all there to be savoured and enjoyed by those with an interest in history and a love and appreciation of countryside, culture, architecture, good eating and, above all, a joie de vivre!More

We really enjoyed our stay at the studio at La Petite Gensac. The apartment is nicely decorated, and the kitchen is well equipped. The patio outside is very nice, but might be a bit crowded if there are many people staying in the other apartment....More

About the neighbourhood
The town name 'Condom' is derived from 'Condatomagus', meaning 'old gallic market'. Condom lies on the river BaIse along one of the main pilgrimage routes of Saint Jacques de Compostelle. Because of its location on the riverbanks of the Baise, in the 19th century Condom became the capitol of the Ténarèze region and the access gate to the Armagnac. The river Baise is nowadays still very well suited for all kinds of boating trips. At the Capitainerie in the small harbour you can even rent a boat yourself. Canoeing excursions can be booked a little bit further upstream in Beaucaire.
