“Pura Vida' is Spanish for “pure life,' a philosophy that encourages the appreciation of life's simple treasures. Relaxation; celebrating friends, family, & the good things in life; appreciating the beauty in every day & choosing to live life to the fullest! It's more than just a saying... it's a lifestyle that we hope you'll embrace when you stay here! The 3 BR/1.5Bath, 1100 square feet, 2-story house near King Ferry is truly right on the water with the upper front deck & connected lower dock both projecting over the lake; no long staircases to climb unlike many other houses on Cayuga Lake. The east shore location means gorgeous morning views as the rising sun bathes the hills across the lake in golden light, & fantastic sunset views in the evening. Recently updated home including brand new memory foam mattresses & stainless kitchen appliances! The new dock/upper deck/boat hoist installation was completed in April 2018 & features plenty of space & bare-feet-approved composite decking! We are loving the improved lakefront access it provides! A small lakeside lawn to the north of the house is shaded by a mature weeping willow tree; there is room to park max 3 cars (sorry there is no overflow parking). The downstairs living space (kitchen/dining/LR) is an open floor plan. Well outfitted kitchen for cooking & dining (non-disposables like plates, glasses, cookware are provided - you bring spices, condiments, any disposable items) & the living room area includes comfortable, updated furniture, flat screen TV with cable and a DVD player. Also on the 1st floor is a full bath with shower/tub combo, & 2 bedrooms (BR1 sleeps 2 in a queen bed. BR2 is pretty small but can sleep 3 in a twin-over full *bunk bed*; sturdy, but intended for kids & may not be optimally comfortable for 3 adults). The open staircase leads to a loft-like 2nd floor with a half bath, a queen bed (sleeps 2) & a daybed (twin mattress, sleeps 1). The spacious deck projecting over the water has fantastic unobstructed views with plenty of room for outdoor relaxing & dining. Near the water a fire pit allows for bonfires & marshmallow roasting; a propane BBQ is available on the deck for grilling. A seawall protects most of the yard from erosion, but there is a small sloping pebble beach right by the willow tree that is perfect for launching kayaks or canoes. 2 adult-sized and 2 kid-sized kayaks available. Outdoor amenities (furniture & kayaks) are seasonally stored & not available during colder months; if important to you, please confirm availability before booking. The front dock is *great* for fishing (bring your own gear), relaxing, or water access via the swim ladder. Permanent boat hoist installed in 2018 is available for use (boats cannot be left in water unobserved due to risks of unpredictable weather-driven Cayuga Lake wave action). Hoist use must be arranged with us in advance of arrival to ensure that it is unlocked; guests using the hoist must be proficient in the safe loading and unloading of boats from a boat lift; on-site training is not available. A separate hoist use fee ($35/day, $150/week) applies. If you plan to bring/rent a boat, please contact us in advance of booking. Trailers must be parked at launch facilities due to space limitations on our one lane road. We provide bed linens & a set of bath towels for each guest; our house towels are white and not for outdoor use, please bring beach towels for outdoors. Laundry & light cleaning is taken care of by us when you depart. Fans are provided throughout the house, & in the summer window air-conditioning units are present. This cottage sleeps a maximum of 8 people; add-ons are not allowed. Lake shore septic systems are sensitive and only able to reliably handle a certain level of use. Please be honest about how many people will be staying in the house - it does none of us any good if more people than the house can handle try to stay there. No parties; renters must discuss/receive prior approval for day-guests from owners. The property is located in a quiet lake community; small family get-togethers are fine, but large, rowdy, or inebriated events are not acceptable. Please respect the privacy of the neighbors and be considerate of noise levels. A maximum of 2 well-behaved dogs allowed with prior owner permission & payment of the pet fee; we do not allow cats due to allergies - if relevant to your visit, please inquire about our full pet policies before booking. Come and enjoy Pura Vida Cottage and easy access to the many wonderful things that the Finger Lakes have to offer! Pura Vida! _______ NOTE: Due to the prevalence of scams, we do NOT accept bookings through unregulated sites and we NEVER ask for bank transfers _______ Graduation Events - if you are looking for a place to stay for these exciting events, we are in a beautiful location and within very reasonable driving distances from Ithaca (20 miles) or Aurora (10 miles). The weather was hot, but the lake and the house were just right. Friendly neighbors, great amenities. We used the kayaks every day, and made a point to watch the sun set every night. We rented SUP’s for the week from Puddledocker’s in Ithaca—highly recommend....More

About the neighbourhood
Pura Vida's location is really optimal in many ways - we are not far down a single-lane private lakeshore road that, in the first half of the 20th century, used to be part of a railroad with train traffic up and down the lake. This road, Fire Lane 6, is a dead end, so there isn't busy through-traffic, making your stay quiet and safe. Unlike many of the other lake neighborhoods that have formed along this former railroad bed, Fire Lane 6 is quite short, and we are only about 13 houses from the turn to the main road, which means it is quick and easy to go on adventures if desired - no long, slow drives just to reach the main road! The evenings at Pura Vida are beautifully quiet and perfect for relaxing and stargazing - either from the comfortable deck or gathered around a lakeside bon...
Getting around
A car is definitely needed to explore the area, which is a network of small towns, and is not easily navigated by public transportation. The most convenient regional airports include Ithaca (approximately 25-30 minutes by car), Syracuse (approximately 1.25 hours by car), Elmira (approximately 1.25 hours by car), Rochester (approximately 1.5 hours by car), or Binghamton (approximately 1.5 hours by car). As we are in a rural area, public transportation services are not available and car rental is recommended.
