LOCATION: This private rural retreat is located in the high desert forest of northern New Mexico. The land is really incredible here. The town (village is more like it), consists of about 150 residents, a general store, a post office, and a fire department. The property itself is on 20 acres. A sense of serenity is pervasive in the natural surrounding landscape, and you will notice the tensions from daily life dissolve. The three miles of dirt roads to the retreat are passable year-round and give the feeling that you are 'out there'. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended in the snow and in the springtime mud. If you'd like some off-site adventure, Taos is 40 minutes away, and Santa Fe is about an hour and a half. The Ski Valley is one-hour door to door, and Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs is less than 30 minutes. You can visit ancient Indian cliff dwellings, hike in the mountains or on the mesa, and river-raft in the Rio Grande Gorge. ACCOMMODATIONS: This beautiful abode is set in an old-growth juniper and piñon pine forest. We call this house 'The Q'. It is a 1300 sf adobe house with a full bath and kitchen. This house sleeps 4+. It has an open floor plan with a sleeping alcove. (There are no actual bedrooms.) Not far away is the Stick Casita. (Casita means 'little house'). It has one bedroom with 2 twin beds and a twin bed in the living room. There is a full bathroom in this casita. There is WiFi, a flatscreen TV & DVD player, (no cable/satellite), a stereo system, and some great books and games. Additionally, we can recommend an incredible cook, as well as other services such as massage, music, and yoga on site. So whether or not you want local art, active adventure, indigenous culture, or a relaxing soak, every evening you will find yourself in the peaceful quietude of the surrounding forest and its natural inhabitants. This is an excellent getaway for couples, small families, close friends, or harried individuals in search of peace. More

This house and accompanying casita are just as described. Spacious, well-furnished, well-equipped in a peaceful, quiet location. The radiant floor heating and the solarium in "Q" make it very warm and comforting in the cold of winter. The bathroom is very nice with a great...More

The property was fabulous for wandering and enjoying the peace and quiet. Lots of different bird species, nice trail, greenhouse herbs/veggies and good climbing trees (and tire swing) were a few of the things my family enjoyed. The Q was well stocked and equipped with...More

About the neighbourhood
The location is magical, especially if you're looking to get away from it all, yet be nearby to the wonders of Northern New Mexico. We're 40 minutes from Taos, 55 minutes from Taos Ski Valley, 20 minutes from the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument, 90 minutes from Santa Fe, and 25 minutes from Ojo Caliente Spa and Mineral Springs. The trees here are very special- normally you don't see such tall old piñon pines and junipers. And the sage smells fantastic, especially after it rains. Treat yourself to a relaxing vacation in an enchanted forest.
Getting around
The roads are passable year-round, but a 4WD or AWD is highly recommended in snow and springtime mud.
