The proximity and view of the ocean was incredible. Very quiet neighborhood, outside the sound of the pounding waves. The accommodations and amenities were basic, but acceptable for the two of us. Owners right next door were very friendly, but allowed us our privacy.

The Loft has been a vital part of our yearly summer travel plans for over 2 decades, and never disappoints. Its spectacular location allows for the serenity, and sometimes excitement, of bold open ocean, enjoyed from the cottage’s immense deck or from the protection of...More

About the neighbourhood
New Harbor is a quaint working fishing village with a very active lobster boat fleet. Needless to say, lobsters are fresh caught daily. Pemaquid beach is a spectacular natural wonder located about 1.5 miles away. Great way to spend an afternoon. Pemaquid lighthouse is world famous and is depicted on the Maine quarter. Reillys grocery is about 1.5 miles away and carries just about everything you might need with a full liquor license. There are a number of excellent restaurants within a short drive. Don't forget your camera, as there are photo-ops galore.
Getting around
Being off the beaten path, so to speak, there is no public transportation so a car is necessary. You'll want to at least take a day trip on the Hardy Boat to visit Monhegan Island which is about 10 miles offshore and has been an artist colony for years, featuring Rockwell Kent and Jamie Wyeth among many others. You can bring your bike as there is lots of good riding available.
