Holiday Rental House
The Mill House is a very special property. It is set at the water's edge overlooking the sea towards Holy Island and Lindisfarne Castle - consequently the kitchen, living room and conservatory all enjoy stunning sea views, as do the upstairs bedrooms. Guests love getting up early to enjoy the breath-taking sunrises (you're on holiday - you can go back to bed for a lie in!). At night you can hear the seals on the sandbank midway between us and Holy Island barking to each other. We often see a fox padding along the water's edge too and all year round beautiful seabirds - waders and waterfowl alike - enjoy the shallow waters so close to our windows. In the Autumn we enjoy watching the vast migratory flocks of geese as they rest up before their long flight to eastern Europe and beyond. ...The Mill House is a very special property. The 18th century millhouse/farmstead, from which our holiday cottage has been created, is thought to be on the site of the original mill that served the monks on Lindisfarne for many centuries. Today, the exterior retains all the style and charm of the original building, whilst the interiors have benefited from the highest quality eco conversion and have been finished with superior quality furnishings and equipment, with designer fabrics used throughout. The cottages are extremely well insulated and double glazed so you'll stay warm and cosy whatever the season. Tiled floors benefit from under floor heating. The living room, which is the room at the water's edge, has windows with stunning sea views on three sides - there is a flat-screen TV and the room is furnished with deep, comfy sofas and armchairs. There is also a DVD player, a small selection of DVDs, a radio, plenty of books, board games, cards, maps, walking guides, free wireless Internet, and an iPod docking station so you won't be bored, even - dare we say it - on a rainy day! The conservatory is off the living room and also overlooks the sea and the private garden. A lovely room to relax in when you want some space away from everyone else. Or if you want the children to play on their own! The kitchen is stylishly equipped with a large fridge freezer, 6 ring gas cooker, dishwasher (plus all the etceteras) and lots of worktop space for large scale catering. The windows have the most incredible view directly towards Beal Causeway in one direction and Lindisfarne Castle in the other! It's difficult to concentrate on cooking when there is so much to look at outside! The kitchen is equipped with all the gadgetry and essentials serious cooks expect, including a food processor, microwave, great knives and plenty of good crockery, cutlery and glasses, so you aren't constantly emptying the dishwasher. The dining room is large and comfortable with extending tables that can accomodate much larger numbers if you are also renting the adjoining cottages. The 4 bedrooms are all beautifully appointed, with 3 upstairs and one for the mobility impaired downstairs (with large en suite shower room). All the upstairs bedrooms (2 doubles and 1 twin) have en suites with both bath and shower. The bedroom on the very end directly overlooking the sea has a lovely window seat from where you can watch the sun rise. All the beds are blissfully comfortable and top quality bed linens and deep, fluffy white towels are provided for your comfort. Little extras - there is a portable tv for your convenience, and for sunny days there are swimming towels and a Harris Tweed picnic blanket. The gentle Farrow and Ball painted walls and neutral carpets and floors create a very tranquil environment for your holiday. A larger group can be accommodated by booking The Mill House along with one or both of the other cottages.More

About the neighbourhood
At the end of a lane, positioned midway between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Bamburgh directly on Northumberland's Heritage Coast, our luxury self-catering holiday cottages are well located for a holiday exploring the ancient Kingdom of Northumbria. Just a few minutes drive from the cottages (or a walk away for keen walkers) is BEAL CAUSEWAY linking the mainland to Holy Island. This is always an exhilarating trip and once on the island you can explore the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory (English Heritage) or visit iconic Lindisfarne Castle (National Trust). There's a pretty harbour and lovely walks all around the shores (including sandy beaches). In the village itself there is of course a good choice of cafes, pubs and little shops to delay your day further... A 15 minute drive to the south ...
How to get there
For sat-nav users, the cottages' postcode is TD15 2PL. We are just a 5 minute drive off the A1. Approaching From The South: Proceed on the A1 from Newcastle towards Edinburgh. Pass Alnwick and Belford. About 5 miles beyond Belford, you will come to a crossroads (with the B6353 to Lowick to the left). Turn right at this crossroads (signed to Fenwick Granary). It is about a 3-5 minute drive from this point. Turn right at the next T junction, then proceed to the end of the road (narrow with blind bends). The holiday cottages are on the left by the sea. Approaching from The North: Proceed on the A1 south from Berwick-upon-Tweed. Half-a-mile past the turning to Holy Island, turn left on to the road marked Fenham Hill. It is about a 3-5 minute drive from this point. Proceed to the end of t...
