Melmerby Hall is a Grade II listed mansion in the heart of the Eden Valley located close to the Lake District and set within its own extensive walled gardens surrounded by 20 acres of private woodland with walks down to a small tributary to the River Eden. The earliest mention of Melmerby Hall dates back to the 1300s with the Hall extended and added onto a number of times over the last 700 years with notable additions including the Georgian Wing on the main front elevation, the Victorian ballroom on the archery lawn garden (removed in the 1940s) and a more recently added breakfasting kitchen. Melmerby Hall has been within the Rowley Estates for four generations and the recent renovations retain the character of this traditional country house including the oak panelled library, the dining room with an enormous stone fireplace, the Georgian drawing room with an open fire and the billiards room with a full size snooker table whilst accommodating modern use with newly refurbished ensuite facilities and breakfasting kitchen. Eight of the nine bedrooms are ensuite and the ninth twin bedroom has access to a private shower room & wc up the hall. If Melmerby Hall is already reserved, please consider our other halls, Blencowe Hall and Hause Hall Farm which also offer extensive accommodation and may well be available. About the neighbourhood
Melmerby Hall is a large holiday house is walking distance from the award winning Village Bakery (great lattes & lots of gluten free choices as well as super fresh bread, cakes and snacks), the Shepherd’s Inn Pub, a super antique shop (the Brocante Emporium), the Village shop & tea house which serves locally blended roasted coffee and the Pennine Fells. The shallow tributary of the River Eden running through its 20 acres of wooded grounds provides hours of fun for kids. Melmerby Hall is pet friendly and there is plenty of room in the 20 acres of gardens and grounds for them to run around!
Getting around
Melmerby Hall is situated just off the A686 which is a beautifully scenic route from Penrith and crosses the River Eden. From Melmerby the road climbs the Hartside Pass to a height of 1904 ft, from where you will find magnificent views across the Eden Valley to the Solway Firth and Scotland. The Settle to Carlisle railway runs through Langwathby which is only 4 miles from Melmerby Hall. The railway has some of the most attractive scenery and is world famous for its Victorian architecture and huge stone viaducts. Penrith train station is on the West Coast Main Line, the railway linking London to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh & Glasgow. Melmerby offers many enjoyable walks and beautiful scenery.
