If you are looking for an accommodation in Chicago, I recommend you the Humphrey Homestay located in the west of the city. You will settle in Oak Park, a wealthy village marking the beginning of the suburb. It is also a very peaceful location as well as the street where you will live. The House is on the east border of Oak Park, close to Austin, a location a little bit poorest than Oak Park but without any security issue.
[Just to be clear on that part if you never lived in Chicago: Most of the city is punctuate by rich and poor area. You will live on the east border of a rich area, at the early beginning of Austin, a little bit poorest area. The boundary between the two areas is Austin Blvd and you will take the bus on this Blvd. There is no security issue taking the bus on Austin Blvd to reach the Green Line and then the downtown.]
The downtown is around 30 minutes from the House (Clinton station / without any train's wait).
Broadly speaking, you will feel at home...
