The grounds consist of the Wicket Walk, the Orleans garden, the River Rock garden and the enclosed central courtyard, all walk-able to guests. (Note: the grounds and the entire SB area are under a severe drought and some areas will remain in transition, remaining under planted and not manicured, until it ends). Once you enter through the main door and come in to the entry parlor, you will find your room up the main grand stairs on the left. To the right are the steps down to the formal ballroom, which is reserved for the enjoyment of the guests. There you will find several sitting areas to gather in, a TV viewing area by the grand fireplace, a pool table, grand piano and several desk arrangements for our business guests. NOTE, additional visitors are NOT ALLOWED to come on the property. The Peppers will be for your use and the use of your 1-3 persons declared party alone. The Estate gives an inordinate amount of space to the guests, and within these areas are some fragile architectural elements. The large amount of open space should not be interpreted as room to have additional persons come to the property. ( Thank you, owners ) For your morning refreshment, coffee. toasts and jams will be setup in the lower forward parlor each morning. The first floor living room and kitchen areas are used by the house staff. Outside there are 4 patio arrangements inserted among the many gardens, including the gazebo, to easily find private spaces. There are 3 guests rooms. Multiple rooms can be booked together and traveling friends or family can easily stay together using several rooms in the same hall. NOTE: Smoking on a room's private patio is allowed. This room does not have a patio, however you can see our other 2 rooms, which do: Ojai Room. A large original bedroom and bath with shower, with a private upper patio. Mediterranean Room. The Master Suite. Large private suite with a sitting area and a huge bath suite with tub, shower, a walk-in closet and a full length upper balcony and patio, White Room. A great value suite with an extra bedroom off the main room. Both rooms share the sitting area and bath of the main room. NOTE This property is 'coming back'. The grounds have suffered from 6 plus years of drought and the recent evacuations from fire and mudslides. We are working on all aspects of this grand old estate weekly. But the door knobs might jiggle, some windows take a trick to latch and expect some wear on a porcelain knob here and there. F.R. Bains bought the estate in 1913 while the President of the Gas Company, to 'winter' away from Los Angeles. One could just ride North from L.A. and stay on paved roads to Montecito in that year. While his wife was adding our famous Ballroom ( architect Julia Morgan of Hearst Castle fame ), she passed unexpectedly and he rented the estate for a time. Dorinda Bliss then rented here while constructing Casa Dorinda up the street, building from the Fletcher's fortune left by her husband. Do you recall Fletcher's Laxative? Our rooms are clean and very comfortable, and each room is the size of a modern living room, built in another era. And all guests have exclusive access to the Ballroom, which has desk areas, TV, a pool table and lovely conversation spots. Envision Paderewski playing piano or Martha Graham dancing by barefoot in front of Julia's first giant fireplace ( ala Citizen Kane). But we are still removing weeds and waiting for agricultural water as the drought has not ended yet. And these $400 rooms are a bargain find for you now before everything is re-plated to perfection. The coffee is good! And we are serious about our toast and many jams to help send you off comfortably every morning to the beautiful Santa Barbara and Montecito city, beaches and countryside. This is the Mediterranean Master Suite of the mansion and is comprised of 800 sf of area, covering the main room, the bathroom complete with a freestanding tub and a shower, a large walk in closet and a full length private patio. The queen bed is very comfortable and soap and shampoo is provided. In the morning there is coffee in the downstairs parlor and self serve makings for toast and jams. The Peppers is a return destination for us and whenever possible I prefer to book the Mediterranean suite, which is the master bedroom of this grand estate. The room takes me back to Greece with its' pillars and lavish balcony. The garden below is so...More
