About the neighbourhood
Assynt is one of the Highlands and Islands area’s most unspoiled and spectacular regions and the village of Drumbeg is a (tourist board) designated scenic viewpoint, nestling between the mountains, a large freshwater loch (Loch Drumbeg) and the Atlantic Ocean, affording magnificent views across Eddrachillis Bay. Drumbeg is 2.5 hours drive from INVERNESS and 1 hour drive from ULLAPOOL. It is situated roughly halfway along the Lochinver – Kylesku B869 coastal road, listed in Peter Irvine's Scotland The Best as one of the 20 most scenic routes in Scotland. This road is single track with passing places (not for the novice driver!). The village has an award-winning local shop, Drumbeg Stores, a characterful pub (at the local hotel) and a tea garden/craft shop. There is excellent hiking... more
Getting around
It is possible to reach Glencorse by public transport and there is a well stocked local village shop right next door as well as a hotel with bar and restaurant (2 mins walk) - BUT there is only 1 local bus a day from Inverness and to reach sandy beaches locally (6 miles), requires a car.
- We therefore strongly recommend a car (or car hire) to fully enjoy all the sights and outings available in the area.
The nearest large supermarket is at Ullapool (50-55mins drive) and a selection of smaller shops are also available at Lochinver (35 mins drive).
Car advised
How to get there
Airport: Inverness: 190.0 km
Railway: Lairg (100km) or Inverness: 178.0 km
Ferry: Ullapool: 80.0 km
By public transport - you can take the bus to Ullapool. There is a taxi service or a further local bus. However a car allows you to fully explore the stunning local scenery. Car hire is available in either Inverness (2.5 hours) or Aberdeen (4.5 hours). Please see our listing map or website for directions. These are also provided in our Welcome Pack
