For golfers the region has a variety of course including a championship level course and in total there are 21 courses in the region all participating in the 'Freedom of the Fairways' passport scheme which offers reduced rates The Borders is renowned for its spectacular scenery and for cyclists the purpose built Abbey's Way provides a unique experience, as does the 7 Stanes mountain biking centres. These 7 centres cater for all levels of expertise with trails running through the forests and expert tuition at hand. Walkers can enjoy the Pennine Way, Abbeys Way or the St Cuthbert Way as well as many short (signposted) walks through beautiful countryside. For wildlife enthusiasts there is a salmon leap at Selkirk, an osprey nest at Peebles and bird sanctuaries at St Abbs Head and the Farne Islands as well as lots of local wildlife. For families the Jedburgh Deer Park makes an interesting day out with rare breeds sheep, pigs, poultry and deer. The tame animals like to be petted and fed and there is an adventure playground for children. The resident birds of prey give flying displays and there are long woodland walks.
