Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Best time ever!
I had so much fun renting the van! It was an amazing way to experience Costa Rica. I got to have an ocean front room every day and went to so many amazing places. Bianca was so helpful in recommending activities and places to explore. If you want to do Costa rica the right way rent this van!!!

DONT RENT FROM THEM!!!
WHOLE HORRIBLE STORY: My partner and I booked this van for a week, which is extremely expensive (just look at what you can get for $137/day in Costa Rica), thinking we would have a reliable house and an adventure car all in one…not the case.
When we first arrived Bianca was rushed and late for a wedding so she very quickly showed us the “self explanatory” van details (which wouldn’t be self explanatory if this was someone’s first time with a van build like this). She showed us all the things that were already half broken or taped up while struggling to open poorly built drawers. She told us “you guys are the last renters of the season so after that we usually fix up everything but it will be totally fine”. My partner and I had bad vibes from this first meeting and didn’t feel very assured about the reliability of the van or how our communication would be with Bianca the rest of our trip. But off we went.
The first night it poured down rain and we discovered three leaks. We attempted to fix a few but we saw it was a bigger issue than just caulking could fix. Plus the toolbox we received with the van had literally nothing that would help us and it was tattered and not updated (along with the first aid kit). We ended up just putting pots and towels down and had to wake up several times throughout the night to empty them. We brought this to Bianca’s attention and had to post pone our travels so her friend Gustavo, who is really kind (and I’m assuming the person who built the van?) tried to fix it. It was definitely a roof issue. And whatever he tried didn’t fix the leaks in the future.
The van is really hot and stuffy and the fan sucks. I mean, obviously it’s hot in Central America but if you’re going to build out a van designed for this kind of environment then design around that issue…so we barely slept every night we were in the van. But we suffered through a couple more nights with thankfully no downpours but still leaks.
Everything is a struggle in this van. From pulling out the bed to pulling out a drawer…nothing was easy or chill. The third night our already taped up water faucet (which was also supposed to be our shower) completely broke off. Like it literally just fell off and I discovered it sitting in the sink. The connecting metal tube that feeds the water from the water system fell down through the spout so when we turned the water on it went all over the floor instead and also all over the system tanks, which are mixed together with electrical wires and such. We spent hours trying to fix it because we obviously needed water and were camping in semi-remote areas…kind of got it to work for a few hours but It ended up making a weird sound later and just broke completely so we had to turn it off. We said screw this and decided to rent a couple of nights in a $30/night awesome rental spot in Uvita.
Some backstory: upon arriving we had a friend that we made some plans with to visit. She lives in Golfito and was going to take the ferry over to puerto Jimenez to see us for the day. It didn’t end up working out but we camped at a chill spot there anyway. We briefly thought about trying to do Corcovado or venturing into some secret areas but I’m really glad we didn’t because heading to our rental spot in Uvita…THE TIRE EXPLODED. We were literally driving on a nicer normal road (ie; a normal road in Costa Rica still has sudden potholes and rough spots) and our tire just randomly exploded. My partner and I are very chill people who don’t get panicked very easily by hard situations but this could have been extremely dangerous for us or anyone had this happened at night or in a remote area. We had no wifi either. (the wifi that comes with the van doesn’t work of course)…..the van had a spare but it was locked to the underside of the vehicle with no key! I decided to use the roaming on our phone to call Bianca. When she answered she had a tone of “why is this person calling me”. I told her we had a flat and she was just said “uhhh ok…? That shouldn’t happen”. Yeah. It shouldn’t happen. She was also out of the country while trying to help us get a mechanic…but not before blaming us in an extremely passive aggressive way for the tire exploding. She said “ya know no one just goes to puerto Jimenez…were you trying to go to Corcovado?” First of all, no. We didn’t. Second off, it’s literally the responsibility of the van owner to have updated all terrain tires on a van like that in Central America! The roads are hot and most of the roads are not great. And the last thing any professional van rental place (they are just two chicks with a couple vans) should do in this extremely stressful situation is start accusing the people who rented your van for over $100/day of stories that you made up in your head because you can’t take responsibility for your own business. Not a professional move. Not a thoughtful move. You also need to let others in the future know where they can and can’t take the van if you know certain areas are off limits for a van like this. I shudder at the thought of someone trying to attempt even a bumpy back road in this vehicle.
After 5 hours of the mechanic having to literally break the tire off, getting a new one for us(which we had to pay for) and giving us a long talk about how dangerous this situation was and how we should only drive slow from now on because all of the tires could explode at any moment (which Bianca denied and claimed to have had a completely different conversation with the mechanic)…we were finally able to just chill at our rental cabin.
We did not attempt anymore Camping in the van and we wished we never rented it. It’s a complete waste of money and time. Bianca will not take responsibility for anything and we were only refunded (after days of her arguing with us and denying that the van was what we said it was) $300. I payed almost $1100 for the van for the week but it ended up being so much more because of the extra accommodations we had to buy. Most of all our time was constantly taken from us because we had to deal with this van.
Save yourself money and stress. Get a normal 4x4 for exploring or just a classic SUV and rent places along the way on your travels. This van is mot worth it but most of all the people renting it to you don’t seem to share the values we did. So if you value thoughtfulness, responsibility, professionalism, care and kindness…you won’t find it here.
// TLDR; Cursed van, don’t rent!

About the neighbourhood
The greatest thing about camper van travel is being able to customize your trip to your taste but also allowing you the freedom to stay somewhere you love longer or pick up and head tot he next spot if your not feeling it. Another aspect that I love is not having to pack and up pack everywhere you go. With the campervan everything stays as is the whole trip. And, lastly, being able to share a delicious home cooked meal at any amazing lookout, private beach, volcano, etc. It really is an unforgettable experience.

The iOverlander App for any smart phone will help you immensely on your journey. The app lets you know where to camp for free, where is paid campsites, mechanics, groceries, etc.
