Jungleside house in Hikkaduwa is a perfect location from which to enjoy the area, set in a peaceful private holding away from the noise of the beach and bars. There are three large king sized bedrooms, hot water throughout, wet bathrooms, outdoor showers, two kitchens and all mod cons including 4G WiFi. Just five minutes walk from Hikkaduwa main reef surfing beach. Long term leases and low season discounts considered.

in to the wild house
This house has now a special place in my heart and my memory.
Jungleside House wraps you around with comfort and homie feel and you instantly relaxed.
The house is surrendered by palm tree and tropical fruits, the wild life is everywhere you look, colourful birds, squirrels and monkeys swinging from tree to tree while you swing and chill on the hammock.
The house has all the amenities hot shower and the most conformable bed with a nice fan to cool you down at hot nights and a kitchen if you feel like cooking.
It feels like a little gateway into the wild while 5 min away you have all the main attraction, and the beach with the main surf spot.
Mike is a fantastic host with loads of local knowledge and tips about Sri Lanka. I am glad we followed his suggestion. We also had a good laugh together.

magical and peaceful place
I stayed with my partner at the jungle side house for 3 nights and decided to go back for 3 more nights at the end of our holiday!the location is amazing, the bed is supercomfortable and you have your own bathroom.
you are surrounded by tropical trees, squirrels and birds in the morning and monkeys at dusk. you can do yoga in the rooftop, chill in the hammock or have a drink in the terrace, relax and enjoy your holiday.
Mike (the owner) gave us so many advises and made us feel like home.
we'll definitely go back and recommend it to our friends.
we travelled a lot and this was one of the best places we've ever stayed.

Perfect
This was my third season at Jungleside House. We've come back each year as the position of the house couldn't be more perfect. It's 5 mins walk to the Galle road which is full of shops and restaurants. The bus stop is at the end of the road which is a cheap ride into Galle. Hikkaduwa beach is the other side of the road which is great for surfing, swimming and snorkelling. They hose is set back in the jungle away from the house of Galle road and the beach so you have the pleasure of waking up to the noise of monkeys, chipmunks, woodpeckers and all the jungle wild life. The house itself is well equipped and is a great base for a short stay or longer. I book the room for 2 weeks then hire a local driver to take me round the island.
Mike the owner is a great host and full of local knowledge. I would definitely recommend staying at Jungleside House and I can't wait to get back there.

Great spot, great rooms, great host. Couldn’t ask for more, and will definitely be coming back. Super chilled, and you get to share the garden with squirrels, monkeys and fireflies!

Jungleside, "living the dream"
Having stayed here last year, it was a no brainier to rebook this year. The location in the town and the beautiful house and garden are perfect to relax in peace and quiet. I was very surprised when I arrived as Mike had done loads of work around the place. There's an outside kitchen, shower and toilet on the balcony! Very handy indeed. Mike is his usual charming self, today he brought me a chocolate croissant and some freshly ground coffee to start the day off. Heaven.
I highly recommend it here.

Perfectly located, peaceful and friendly
I stayed at Mikes place last year, when my house was fully booked out . It was like home from home, as he makes you feel very comfortable. I is a very convenient location, being so close to the town and beach and Mike is the perfect host, who is there if needed and shares his facilities with you but also allows you the privacy that you sometimes need.
I visited Mike´s recently and he now has a new outside oven where he makes all kinds of delicious food . The is a new yoga area on the top of the house, where you are at the same height as the monkeys!! great!! I believe there will be some yoga lessons coming up this season and also a new juice bar!! Good luck with it ,Mike!

Awesome space!
This house was an awesome surprise. Double story with a great verandah where we drank G&T's just about every evening. And it's only about 5 mins walk to the beach. Great seafood around this neck of the woods too!

Jungle Bliss
Had an amazing stay at Jungleside, nicely situated a short stroll from the beach in a private , quiet area, but close enough to all the nightlife and restaurants. My room was great with a large clean bed and ensuite bathroom. On the roof is a lovely space to do yoga and off my room a great balcony to relax, spot birds and see the occasional monkey...Mike is a friendly wonderful host and goes out of his way giving you information on Sri Lanka and the surrounding area..Will definitely be back and totally recommend it to anyone !

great spot in the jungle not far from the beautiful beach
Hikkaduwa is a great place to stay for relaxing,surfing and Yoga, good foof and Party as well...It can be busy but at the same time you will find beautiful spots like the jungle side where you are away from all the tourists. It has a beautiful garden with lots of wild animals to watch. The roof top terrace is perfect for Yoga sessions or just to relax. We had some great BBQ nights and hammock-relaxing days in the jungle side house. The owner is such a nice guy and helps with lots of insider tips and organises the nicest tuk tuk driver, tells you where to buy the best local BBQ wood and fresh bread if you want.
I had a great time there and can highly recommend this place!

Jungle house serenity
I stayed there a whole month and it was fantastic. The owner became a life long friend during this time. He picked fresh fruit from his garden and made lassies, shakes etc for meals. Flew me about on his scooter when asked and shared many an evening with him and his friends around the town. He knows everybody!!
The house is huge with an upper deck to die for. The whole experience was so chilled and laid back, just what I was after when I chose the destination. The house was recommended to me in the first place, says it all doesn't it.
Thanks Mike for a very memorable stay. See you this Christmas!

About the neighbourhood
The Hikkaduwa area is a lesser known 1960's hippy haunt, many early travelers came here because of its "off the beaten track" appeal and relaxed atmosphere. Over the years and particularly since the end of the civil war Hikkaduwa has become much more accessible and enjoyed a vibrant tourist trade revival. Hikkaduwa was best known for it's waves and surfing beaches, catering for surfers and travelers from all over the world. Today Hikkaduwa also caters for package holiday makers as well as the more discerning traveler, families and luxury boutique holiday makers. It's a mixed bag of fun and convenience, catering for revelers but also those looking for total relaxation.
It makes a great base from which to explore the rest of this magnificent Island or if you prefer to stay put and just relax on the beach or around the pool. There are bars, cafe's, restaurants, nightclubs, hotels and all that you would expect from a bustling tourist resort. If you venture across the railway line into the jungle you will find quaint villages, lakes and lagoons, rice paddy fields, cinnamon plantations, temples, rivers and waterfalls in abundance. It really is the one area of Sri Lanka that caters for all tastes and expectations.
