Cottage
The Byre was the first of the three Sakli Vadi cottages and is the largest of the three. The ruin was bought in 1993 and took a little over a year to restore. The restoration was done after much research into what the original building looked like, both inside and out. The cottage was awarded a plaque from the Turkish Ministry Of Tourism & Culture for “Sympathetic Restoration Of Turkish Heritage” of which the owners Sandy & Jon Carter are justifiably proud.

The cottage is situated at the highest point at the western end of the Kaya valley, with stunning views in all directions. The lounge has a balcony area which has two single beds, suitable for teenagers.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Beautiful Seclusion
Our stay of four days at The Byre felt too short in the end. The owners have done an amazing restoration job, managing to strike the right balance between quaint/rural and modern/convenient. The location is relatively isolated, so a car is advisable. However this isolation means that the setting is truly stunning, being perched up on a hill surrounded on all sides by mountains and countryside. (The Byre has the best views of the cottages collectively named Sakli Vadi.) It was a perfect place to relax, but there are also plenty of places to visit and things to do in the wider area. The location is far enough away from the bustle of Fethiye, and yet only a 15-20 min drive away by car. If you can’t be bothered to cook, there are also lots of good places to eat nearby. There was plenty of outside seating and a great little deck with loungers and a welcome plunge pool. There was also plenty of flora and fauna to get acquainted with. The Byre left us with memories that will last a long time and we can see why people return. Maybe we will too one day. Tips: The visitors' book in the cottage is worth reading for recommendations on places to visit and eat. The advice was pretty reliable. The housekeeper is friendly and helpful if you have any questions. A maid visits each day to clean the bathroom and make the bed. She will also do any washing that you need doing, but please make sure you tip her generously for doing it. It's best to buy provisions from a larger supermarket in Fethiye, as the smaller local shops tend to exploit tourists with inflated prices.

About the neighbourhood
There are many ancient sites such as Xanthos, Kadyanda, Tlos, Letoon and many others. The areas beaches, with one exception are pebbles. They are in the main kept spotlessly clean and tidy.

Towering above the Kaya Valley is the Baba Dag mountian. This is the site from which the hang gliders launch. You can see them all year round and the annual international festival is held in Oludeniz. If you want a thrilling flight have a go ! In the Kaya Village is the Ghost Town. This is worth a visit. The Ghost Town was featured in Louis de Berniers book "Birds Without Wings".
