Beach – 600 meters Market – 500 meters Slano ( beaches , restaurants, bars, supermarket, post office and bakery) = 5 km Dubrovnik Old Town = 39 km Dubrovnik airport = 60 km DUBROVNIK - distance 39 km - is one of the most prominent destinations in the Mediterranean Sea. In 1979, the Old City of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Nicknamed “The Pearl of the Adriatic”, the Old City is surrounded by medieval forts and walls which are almost 2 kilometers long and can be visited. The prosperity of the city was historically based on maritime trade; as the capital of the maritime Republic of Dubrovnik, it achieved a high level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries, as it became notable for its wealth and skilled diplomacy. ........................................................................... STON - distance 17 km - is a medieval little town, which you pass on the way to the house, with a history reaching back as far as the early 14th century. It was a major fort of the Republic of Dubrovnik whose defensive walls were regarded as a notable feat of medieval architecture, nowadays nicknamed “The European Wall of China”. The town's inner wall measures 890 meters in length, while the Great Wall outside the town is 5 km long. It was meant to protect the precious salt pans that contributed to Dubrovnik's wealth, which are still being worked today and can also be visited. The wall extends to Mali Ston, a smaller town on the northern side of the Pelješac peninsula which lies in the Bay of Mali Ston, nowadays notable for its oysters and mussels. On your way to or from Dubrovnik, you can stop in some of the reastaurants here for a delicious authentic meal. ............................................. WINE AND OLIVE OIL PRODUCTION – PELJEŠAC PENINSULA Since ancient times the Pelješac peninsula has been adorned with grapevine and olive plantations. Wine and olive oil productions have a long tradition and are among the most important commercial activities. The wine roads, visits to wineries and vineyards provide a powerful experience of Pelješac's and its inhabitants' tradition, life and love of grapes and wine. A lot of families in the area have their own production, offer tastings and of course sell local products. ................................................................................ NATIONAL PARK MLJET - the park is situated on the nearby island of Mljet, one of the largest islands in south Dalmatia. It includes the western part of the island, covering an area of 54 square kilometres full of lush and varied Mediterranean vegetation. The central parts of the park are: the Great Lake with the Isle of St. Mary and its 12th c. monastery (an island within an island), the Small Lake, and the villages of Goveđari, Polače and Pomena. Daily excursions start from Žuljana, located on the southern side of the Pelješac peninsula, 11 km away from the house, or you can take a car ferry from Prapratno (17km away). ........................................ KORČULA - a historic fortified town on the east coast of the island of Korčula. The lovely old city lies on a small peninsula and guards the narrow sound between the island and the mainland (Pelješac). The city also claims to be the birthplace of the famous explorer Marco Polo – his birth-house can be seen and visited in the old city Korčula. More
